Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyPercutaneous kyphoplasty combined with zoledronic acid for the treatment of primary osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture: a prospective, multicenter study.
To explore the therapeutic efficacy of percutaneous kyphoplasty (PKP) combined with zoledronic acid (ZOL) in postmenopausal women and adult men with osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture (OVCF). ⋯ The therapeutic efficacy of PKP combined with ZOL for primary OVCF is clinically beneficial and warrants further study.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyThe effects of tourniquet on cement penetration in total knee arthroplasty.
Aseptic loosening is a common cause of implant failure following total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Cement penetration depth is a known factor that determines an implant's "strength" and plays an important role in preventing aseptic loosening. Tourniquet use is thought to facilitate cement penetration, but its use has mixed reviews. The aim of this study was to compare cement penetration depth between tourniquet and tourniquet-less TKA patients. ⋯ Tourniquet use does not affect average penetration depth but increases the likelihood of achieving optimal cement penetration depth. Further study is warranted to determine whether this increased likelihood of optimal cement penetration depth yields lower revision rates.

Multicenter StudyOutcomes of arthroscopic-assisted middle trapezius tendon transfer for isolated irreparable supraspinatus tendon tears: minimum 2-year follow-up.
Middle trapezius tendon (MTT) transfer has been proposed as a feasible option for managing isolated irreparable supraspinatus tears (IISTTs). However, no clinical study has been attempted. This study aimed to evaluate clinical and radiologic outcomes of arthroscopic-assisted MTT transfer in patients with IISTTs. ⋯ Retrospective case series, level IV.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyCup positioning and its effect on polyethylene wear of vitamin E- and non-vitamin E-supplemented liners in total hip arthroplasty: radiographic outcome at 5-year follow-up.
Aseptic loosening remains a challenging problem after total hip arthroplasty. Accurate cup placement and supplementation of antioxidants in acetabular liners might reduce material failure rates. The aim of this study is to assess the effect of the cup position on the wear behaviour of UHMWPE-XE and UHMWPE-X liners in vivo using virtual radiographs. ⋯ Anterior approaches lead to the highest inaccuracy of cup placement, but cup positioning outside the Lewinnek safe zone does not necessarily cause higher dislocation rates. Moreover, mean anteversion increased by approximately four degrees within the first year after operation, which is expected to be functional due to a regularization of pelvic tilt after intervention. Mid-term wear rates of UHMWPE-X and UHMWPE-XE liners are comparable, but steep cup positions lead to significantly increased polyethylene wear. In summary, a re-evaluation of target zones for intraoperative cup positioning might be considered. In the long-term reduced oxidative embrittlement could lead to superior wear behaviour of vitamin E-blended liners.

Multicenter StudySurvivorship, complications and patient-reported outcomes in calcar-guided short-stem THA: prospective mid-term multicenter data of the first 879 hips.
Short stems are a bone and soft-tissue preserving alternative to conventional stems. The aim of this multicenter study is to present the mid-term outcomes of a calcar-guided short stem. ⋯ This short stem produced highly satisfactory outcomes at mid-term, with 98.4% implant survival for any cause of stem revision and low complication rates. Long-term results are required to further evaluate these promising mid-term results.
