Preoperative Depression, Smoking, and Employment Status are Significant Factors in Patient Satisfaction After Lumbar Spine Surgery.
Prospective cohort study. ⋯ Depression, smoking, and employment status, specifically whether a patient is on disability at the time of surgery, are all significant factors in patient satisfaction after lumbar spine surgery. These factors are also shown in impact ODI and EQ-5D scores. Surgeons should consider these particular characteristics when developing a lower back pain treatment plan involving surgery.

The Relationship Between Cervical Degeneration and Global Spinal Alignment in Patients With Adult Spinal Deformity.
To examine the relationship between cervical degeneration and spinal alignment by comparing patients with adult spinal deformity versus the control cohort. ⋯ Flat cervical spine coexisted with cervical degeneration when compensatory hypothoracic kyphosis was induced by degenerative flatback. In other situations, cervical lordosis could increase as a compensatory reaction against sagittal imbalance or hyperthoracic kyphosis.

Review Meta Analysis Comparative StudyComparison of Anterior Decompression and Fusion With Posterior Laminoplasty for Multilevel Cervical Compressive Myelopathy: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
Systematic review and meta-analysis. ⋯ On the basis of this meta-analysis, anterior decompression and fusion is associated with better recovery of neurological function, better postoperative cervical alignment, higher postoperative complication and reoperation rates, more blood loss, and longer operative times compared with posterior laminoplasty.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyReduction of Leg Pain by Oxiplex Gel After Lumbar Discectomy in Patients With Predominant Leg Pain and Elevated Levels of Lower Back Pain: A Prospective, Randomized, Blinded, Multicenter Clinical Study.
A prospective, randomized, blinded, multicenter clinical study. ⋯ The data from this study confirm and extend results of 2 previous studies in Italy and the United States that reported statistically significantly greater reductions in leg pain in gel-treated patients with severe preoperative low back pain compared with patients who only underwent decompression surgery.

Antifibrinolytic Use and Blood Transfusions in Pediatric Scoliosis Surgeries Performed at US Children's Hospitals.
Retrospective cohort study using the Pediatric Health Information Systems database. ⋯ The effectiveness of antifibrinolytics as used outside of clinical trials is unclear and should continue to be explored. Future prospective research is needed to evaluate which administration protocols will most benefit patients, as well as to determine the comparative effectiveness of these drugs in the context of other blood conservation strategies.
