Dual Energy CT - a Novel Technique for Diagnostic Testing of Fragility Fractures of the Pelvis.
Background The incidence of fragility fractures of the pelvis is increasing. Established methods to diagnose this condition include X-rays, computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Dual energy CT (DECT) is a modern technology for the imaging of bone oedema/bruises and has been used in injuries of the extremities and spine. ⋯ Conclusion Although DECT is already established for other indications and is regarded as a promising method by all respondents of the "AG Becken III", DECT is not yet routinely used for diagnostic testing of fragility fractures of the pelvis. Potential advantages of DECT include its greater sensitivity than CT in detecting bone oedema with equal radiation exposure. Unlike MRI, it is available 24 hours/7 days.

[Effect of continuous passive motion for cartilage regenerative surgery - a systematic literature review].
The aim of this systematic review was to evaluate treatment effects of continuous passive motion (CPM) after surgical cartilage repair. ⋯ Three studies described significant improvements with regard to subjective outcome such as pain, swelling, Quality Life Survey, Knee Society score, WOMAC score or rating Cincinnati due to the surgical treatment and the CPM intervention of cartilage defects in the knee. Six (case) studies suggested an enhanced cartilage quality of the patients after CPM. More high-quality randomised controlled trials are needed to provide high level evidence.

[Diagnostic and therapeutic management of primary and recurrent patellar dislocations - analysis of a nationwide survey and the current literature].
Patellar dislocations are a common injury of the knee joint. During patella dislocations injuries of soft-tissue structures can occur that can destabilise the patella and lead to recurrent dislocations. There are also congenital pathologies that predispose to patella dislocations. In the current literature, diagnostics and treatment of patellar dislocations are frequently discussed. Therefore the aim of our survey was to analyse and summarise actual diagnostic and therapeutic strategies regarding primary and recurrent patella dislocations. ⋯ The results of our survey showed diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in the participating departments which are in accordance with recommendations in recent publications. The clinical importance of the MPFL reconstruction was observed for primary and recurrent patella dislocation. In addition, conservative treatment is still the most common treatment after primary dislocation of the patella.

[Electromagnetic fields, electric current and bone healing - what is the evidence?].
For more than 30 years the potential effects of electrical stimulation on bone healing have been investigated. Up to now this therapy is controversial and not established as a standardised treatment option. This systematic review and metaanalysis focuses on the potential effects of electromagnetic fields and high-frequency electric fields on bony healing. ⋯ When performing a subgroup analysis a statistically significant result could not be confirmed by the studies with a higher methodological quality. In view of the heterogeneous physical parameters with different frequencies, time course, flux densities and in view of the methodological deficits, a general conclusion seems difficult. Recommendations or standards of therapy are so far not available.
