Intramedullary Nailing and Minimally Invasive Percutaneous Plate Osteosynthesis in Treatment of Displaced Clavicular Mid-shaft Fractures: A Prospective Study.
To compare the difference between MIPO and IMN methods in the treatment of displaced clavicular mid-shaft fractures. ⋯ Both methods were effective for the treatment of displaced clavicular mid-shaft fractures. However, the MIPO method might be better for recovery of shoulder and upper extremity function in the short term and might have a lower nonunion rate.

Undergraduate Curricular Training in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound by Student Teachers: The Impact of Peyton's Four-Step Approach.
The aim of this study was to assess the impact of Peyton's 4-step approach on musculoskeletal ultrasound skills in a peer-teaching environment as compared to traditional "see one, do one" training and to evaluate students' acceptance of the training strategy. ⋯ Traditional teaching and Peyton's 4-step approach seem to be equally effective for teaching basic musculoskeletal ultrasound skills to undergraduate medical students. Qualitative analysis revealed high acceptance of both peer teaching strategies. Differences in course content complexity and degree of difficulty need to be addressed in future courses.

[Clinical-practical Examination in Orthopaedic Teaching: Who is the "Ideal" Examiner?]
Background Medical curricula require an increasing amount of integrated clinical practical skills education. German medical faculties are increasingly implementing the OSCE (objective structured clinical examination) to test students' practical as well as communication skills. Teaching and assessment tools for practical skills include simulators and simulated patient scenarios, where peer-assisted teaching (PAT) is applied. ⋯ Conclusion The analysis shows only one significant evaluation difference between the two assessors, with the PAT student tutor's evaluation being stricter. The authors conclude that a point difference of 0.8 out of 25 in the average overall evaluation and an interrater reliability of 0.95 in an orthopaedic OSCE station examining practical skills as well as communication skills justifies employing PAT student tutors as assessors in this context. The obligatory requirements for this are a detailed PAT student tutor training, the development of a well-structured and valid checklist, as well as continuous quality assurance of the overall OSCE.

[Epidural injection therapy with local anaesthetics versus cortisone in the lumbar spine syndrome: a prospective study].
The prospective randomised double-blind study analyses follow-up data of the therapeutic effects of cortisone versus local anaesthetics using an injection technique close to the nerve root in chronic lumbar spine syndrome. ⋯ The advantage of a combined injection of local anaesthetics and cortisone versus a injection of local anaesthetics alone in epidural-peridural technique in the inpatient treatment of the chronic lumbar spine root compression syndrome could not be detected.

[Additional treatment in chronic pain syndrome due to hip and knee arthritis with the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor fluvoxamine (Fevarin].
The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness and safety of the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor fluvoxamine (Flevarin) in patients with a chronic pain syndrome due to hip and knee arthritis. ⋯ Considering the good effects in combination with very few side effects, a positive cost-effectiveness relation for the usage of fluvoxamine can be stated in patients with chronic pain syndrome due to hip and knee arthritis.
