The purpose of this study was to monitor developmental progress and identify predictors of developmental outcomes at 2 years after operation in infants who underwent a surgical procedure with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) at less than 3 months of age. ⋯ Children undergoing repair of congenital heart disease (CHD) still have impaired development 2 years after the operation. Observed patterns of development were specific to the skill being assessed and related to both anatomic complexity and increased complexity of care received.

Impact of atrial remodeling on heart rhythm after radiofrequency ablation and mitral valve operations.
This study was conducted to determine the effect of left atrial structural remodeling on heart rhythm after radiofrequency ablation concomitant to mitral valve operation. ⋯ Left atrial structural remodeling strongly affects heart rhythm after concomitant radiofrequency ablation and mitral valve operation.

Sutureless perceval aortic valve replacement: results of two European centers.
The Perceval S bioprosthesis (Sorin Biomedica Cardio Srl, Sallugia, Italy) is a self-expanding valve designed to preserve aortic sinuses and sinotubular junction. We report the midterm results of a prospective, multicenter clinical study evaluating the safety and efficacy of this stented bioprosthesis in patients undergoing aortic valve replacement with or without concomitant procedures. ⋯ Perceval sutureless is a safe bioprosthesis that can easily be implanted, including by a minimally invasive technique. It provides excellent hemodynamic with significant clinical improvement. Overall, these data confirm the safety and utility of the Perceval bioprosthesis aortic valve replacement for high-risk patients.

Risk factors for early death in patients bridged to transplant with continuous-flow left ventricular assist devices.
Recent evidence suggests patients bridged to heart transplant (BTT) have equivalent outcomes as those undergoing conventional orthotopic heart transplantation (OHT). However, data on risk factors for early death in BTT patients are limited. ⋯ This study examining risk factors for early death in patients bridged to OHT using HeartMate II mechanical assistance will aid in identifying patients best suited to benefit from this technology.

Minimally invasive surgery using bipolar radiofrequency energy is effective treatment for refractory atrial fibrillation.
A web-based registry was used to prospectively study patients after minimally invasive surgery with monitoring to determine freedom from atrial fibrillation (AF) (clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT00747838). This is a report showing the utility and feasibility of the registry. ⋯ The STAR (stable angina in practice) registry is an effective web-based tool for long-term follow-up of patients after surgery for AF. Minimally invasive surgery with lesions created by bipolar RF energy is an effective treatment for AF in carefully selected patients.
