Opioid versus opioid-free analgesia after surgical discharge: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised trials.
Excessive opioid prescribing after surgery has contributed to the current opioid crisis; however, the value of prescribing opioids at surgical discharge remains uncertain. We aimed to estimate the extent to which opioid prescribing after discharge affects self-reported pain intensity and adverse events in comparison with an opioid-free analgesic regimen. ⋯ The Canadian Institutes of Health Research.

Here, we report the final results of Solidarity and meta-analyses of mortality in all relevant trials to date. ⋯ WHO.

Estimating excess mortality due to the COVID-19 pandemic: a systematic analysis of COVID-19-related mortality, 2020-21.
Mortality statistics are fundamental to public health decision making. Mortality varies by time and location, and its measurement is affected by well known biases that have been exacerbated during the COVID-19 pandemic. This paper aims to estimate excess mortality from the COVID-19 pandemic in 191 countries and territories, and 252 subnational units for selected countries, from Jan 1, 2020, to Dec 31, 2021. ⋯ Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, J Stanton, T Gillespie, and J and E Nordstrom.
