To evaluate the antiviral effect and safety of arbidol and Lianhuaqingwen Capsule (LH) in treating patients with Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).108 patients with COVID-19 were divided into 2 groups, including 40 patients in the arbidol group and 68 patients in the arbidol + LH group. Patients in the arbidol + LH group received 200 mg of arbidol and 1400 mg of LH per 8 hour, and the arbidol group was given 200 mg arbidol per 8 hour. Blood routine examination, blood biochemistry detection, SARS-CoV-2 nucleic acid detection, and chest CT scans were performed to evaluate the clinical effects between the 2 groups. ⋯ No apparent side effects were found in both groups. No patients were transferred to the intensive care unit (ICU) treatment. Arbidol combined with LH treatment may be more effective in improving the prognosis and accelerating the SARS-CoV-2 clearance in patients with COVID-19.

Dissecting cellulitis of the scalp, or Hoffman disease, is described as an extremely rare condition. Clinically, it is represented by recurrent painful nodules, purulent drainage, interconnected sinus tracts and keloid formation, leading to scaring and cicatricial alopecia. Without a precise diagnosis and an adequate treatment, the repercussions consist of severe infectious complications along with psychological negative effects and serious aesthetic alterations. There is no standard treatment. In refractory cases, surgical management is reported. ⋯ The scope of this case report is to raise awareness of the following aspects: Hoffman disease has an extremely low occurrence rate, a difficult differential diagnosis and no standard therapeutical strategy. It also highlights the effectiveness of scalpectomy and free latissimus dorsi flap covered by meshed split-thickness skin graft in treating a very advanced stage of the disease together with providing a natural contouring of the scalp. Ultimately, it discusses the other treatment alternatives.

Lung cancer is a leading cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide. Currently, targeted therapy has proved highly efficient in the treatment of advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Mesenchymal-epithelial transition factor (MET) is considered a validated molecular target in NSCLC. Given the low incidence of MET exon 14 skipping mutation, the planning of precision treatment for patients is a clinical problem that needs to be solved. In this report, we present a MET-positive case that benefited from crizotinib and cabozantinib treatment. ⋯ As MET exon 14 skipping mutation is rare in clinical practices, MET-TKIs (tyrosine kinase inhibitors) treatment can boost curative effects and improve prognosis of patients with advanced lung adenocarcinoma. This case report supports a rationale for the treatment of lung adenocarcinoma patients with a MET exon 14 skipping mutation and provides alternative treatment options for these types of NSCLC patients.

The present study aimed to investigate the correlation of long non-coding RNA nuclear-enriched abundant transcript 1 (lncRNA NEAT1) with microRNA (miR)-21, miR-124, and miR-125a, and their associations with disease risk, severity, and inflammatory cytokines of allergic rhinitis (AR). Totally 70 AR patients and 70 non-atopic obstructive snoring patients (as controls) were recruited. Inferior turbinate mucosa samples were collected from all participants for lncRNA NEAT1, its targets (miR-21, miR-124, and miR-125a), interleukin (IL)-4, IL-6, IL-10, and IL-17 detection via reverse transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction. ⋯ However, in controls, no correlation of lncRNA NEAT1 with miR-21, miR-124, or miR-125a was observed. Furthermore, in AR patients, lncRNA NEAT1 was positively, while miR-21 and miR-125a was negatively associated with INSS (rhinorrhea, itching, congestion scores), TNSS and inflammatory cytokines; however, correlation of miR-124 with INSS, TNSS, and inflammatory cytokines was slight. LncRNA NEAT1 and its targets (miR-21 and miR-125a) present close correlations with disease risk, severity, and inflammation of AR, suggesting their potential as biomarkers for AR assessment.

Hypertensive patients commonly co-exist persistent depressive symptoms. However, these issues are not always identified, especially in primary health care, which may worsen the prognosis of hypertension. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine the prevalence and risk factor of depression, and to develop risk nomogram of depression in hypertensive patients from primary health care Northwest China. ⋯ The decision curve analysis and clinical impact curve demonstrated clinical usefulness of predictive nomogram. There is a considerable prevalence of depression in patients with hypertension from primary care of Xinjiang, Northwest China. Our nomogram may help primary care providers assess the risk of depression in patients with hypertension.
