We report on a patient with hypoxic-ischemic brain injury (HI-BI) who showed recovery from a minimally consciousness state over 6 years concurrent with recovery of an injured ascending reticular activating system (ARAS), which was demonstrated on diffusion tensor tractography (DTT). A 31-year-old female patient, who suffered from HI-BI, showed impaired consciousness with a minimally conscious state: intermittently obeying simple motor tasks, such as "please grasp my hand." Her consciousness showed recovery with the passage of time; rapid recovery was observed during the recent 2 years. ⋯ Recovery of an injured ARAS was demonstrated in a patient who showed recovery from a minimally consciousness state over 6 years following HI-BI. Our results suggest the brain target areas for recovery of impaired awareness in patients with disorders of consciousness.

Colon cancer is one of the most common cancers in the world. To identify the candidate genes in the carcinogenesis and progression of colon cancer, the microarray datasets GSE10950, GSE44861 and GSE74602 were downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. The differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified, and functional enrichment analyses were performed. ⋯ Thirteen hub genes were identified, and poor OS of patients was only associated with high expression of Matrix Metallopeptidase 7 (MMP7), which may be involved in the carcinogenesis, invasion or recurrence of colon cancer. In conclusion, we propose that the DEGs and hub genes identified in the present study may be regarded as diagnostic biomarkers for colon cancer. Moreover, the overexpression of MMP7 may correlate with poor prognosis.

Multiple myeloma with Echinococcus granulosus infection diagnosed by detection of oligoclonal bands: A case report.
Isoelectric focusing electrophoresis (IFE) is currently recognized as the gold standard for detecting oligoclonal bands (OCBs) in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). To the best of our knowledge, however, no study has reported on type III OCBs using IFE. In this paper, we report on a rare case of multiple myeloma (MM) with Echinococcus granulosus infection diagnosed by IFE. ⋯ Detection of OCB type III indicated that the patient was diagnosed with MM accompanied by E granulosus infection. Thus, IFE of CSF may be an auxiliary diagnostic method for MM in the future.

The relationships among self-efficacy, social support, and self-care behavior in the elderly patients with chronic pain (a STROBE-compliant article).
The relationships among the self-efficacy, social support and self-care behavior in the elderly patients with chronic pain has not been reported. Therefore, we explored the relationships among self-efficacy, social support and self-care behavior in the elderly patients with chronic pain. General data questionnaire, self-efficacy scale, social support scale and self-care behavior scale were performed in 1032 elderly patients with chronic pain from Shenyang city between February and December 2017. ⋯ The self-efficacy was positively correlated with the self-care behavior (r = 0.414, P < .001), the self-efficacy was positively correlated with the social support (r = 0.293, P < .001) and the social support was positively correlated with the self-care behavior (r = 0.322, P < .001). The mediating effect of self-efficacy was 0.121 which accounted for 27.31% of the total effects. The self-efficacy plays a mediating effect between social support and self-care behavior in the elderly patients with chronic pain.

Total elbow arthroplasty (TEA) is an orthopedic procedure that is relatively infrequently performed, but its use has been increasing over time. Infection remains one of the most concerning complications after TEA, although Mycobacterium tuberculosis (TB) as a microbial etiology, is extremely rare. Here, we present a case of M. tuberculosis infection after TEA. ⋯ The diagnosis of TB infection after TEA is difficult to confirm due to its nonspecific signs and symptoms. Despite the extremely low incidence, failure to consider this possibility for diagnosis can lead to delayed treatment. Proper diagnosis allows for antitubercular therapy with retention of a prosthesis.
