Retrospective case series. ⋯ In this series, en bloc resection, the absence of metastasis, low-grade tumors, and negative margins were associated with improved overall survival. The aggressive use of sophisticated surgical and radiation techniques appears to confer an advantage to patients, decreasing local recurrence and increasing overall survival, even following incomplete surgical resection.

Retrospective case-control study. ⋯ Spinal fusion for scoliosis in RS can give a satisfactory technical result, but a high rate of early postoperative medical problems should be anticipated.

Controlled laboratory study. ⋯ PLIF using expandable lumbar interbody cage requires pedicle screw fixation.

Prospective study of 212 patients with groin pain but without low back pain. ⋯ In the current study, we diagnosed discogenic groin pain, using magnetic resonance imaging, infiltration of lidocaine into the hip joint, pain provocation on discography, pain relief by anesthetic discoblock, and lumbar surgery. It is important to consider the existence of discogenic groin pain if patients do not show low back pain.

Review Meta Analysis
Evaluation of treatment effectiveness for the herniated cervical disc: a systematic review.
Systematic review. ⋯ No evidence for effectiveness of conservative treatment compared with surgery was found. Although there is moderate evidence for the effectiveness of some surgical interventions, no unequivocal evidence for the superiority of 1 particular surgical treatment was found. Worldwide, most patients receive supplementary implants; however, cervical discectomy without graft may be preferred because of similar outcomes, lower costs, and possibly a lower risk of adjacent-level disease. More high-quality RCTs using validated outcome measures (including adjacent level disease) are needed.
