Randomized Controlled TrialEffect of music on labor pain relief, anxiety level and postpartum analgesic requirement: a randomized controlled clinical trial.
The control of labor pain and the prevention of suffering are major concerns of clinicians and their patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of music on labor pain and anxiety, maternal hemodynamics, fetal-neonatal parameters and postpartum analgesic requirement in primiparous women. ⋯ Listening to music during labor has a positive impact on labor pain and anxiety, maternal-fetal parameters and analgesic requirement.

Randomized Controlled TrialTranscutaneous electrical nerve stimulation improves low back pain during pregnancy.
To compare the efficiency of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) with those of exercise and acetaminophen for the treatment of pregnancy-related low back pain (LBP) during the third trimester of pregnancy. ⋯ TENS is an effective and safe treatment modality for LBP during pregnancy. TENS improved LBP more effectively than did exercise and acetaminophen.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyComparison of low-dose oxytocin and dinoprostone for labor induction in postterm pregnancies: a randomized controlled prospective study.
The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of oxytocin and dinoprostone in achieving successful labor induction and vaginal delivery in postterm women with an unfavorable cervix. ⋯ Both oxytocin and dinoprostone seem to have similar obstetric outcomes in postterm pregnancies with an unfavorable cervix, except for a significant superiority of oxytocin for delivery in a shorter period.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyA randomized comparison of droperidol, metoclopramide, tropisetron, and ondansetron for the prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting.
Nausea and vomiting are the most common causes of postoperative complications, and they are seen most often after operations performed using general anesthesia and sedation. We designed this study to compare the effects of droperidol, metoclopramide, tropisetron, and ondansetron for the prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting in patients undergoing gynecologic operations. ⋯ We conclude that metoclopramide is not effective in preventing postoperative nausea and vomiting after gynecologic operations. Droperidol, tropisetron, and ondansetron are effective; however, the sedating effects of droperidol and tropisetron should be considered.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyA double-blind randomized controlled trial of oral misoprostol and intramuscular syntometrine in the management of the third stage of labor.
The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy and safety of oral misoprostol 400 mug with intramuscular syntometrine in the management of the third stage of labor. ⋯ Orally administered misoprostol at a dose of 400 mug is an acceptable alternative in preventing post-partum blood loss, as measured by the peri-partum change in hemoglobin level and was not associated with an increased incidence of side effects.
