Randomized Controlled TrialThromboelastography-guided Blood Product Transfusion in Cirrhosis Patients With Variceal Bleeding: A Randomized Controlled Trial.
The aim of this study was to assess the use of thromboelastography (TEG)-directed blood product transfusion in cirrhotic patients with acute variceal bleeding compared with conventional transfusion for correction of coagulopathy. ⋯ TEG-guided strategy was associated with reduced blood product transfusion to correct coagulopathy without compromising hemostasis in cirrhotic patients (Clinical trial ID: CTRI/2017/02/007864).

Randomized Controlled TrialPotential Role of Gut Microbiota in ALS Pathogenesis and Possible Novel Therapeutic Strategies.
Recent preclinical studies suggest that dysfunction of gastrointestinal tract may play a role in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) pathogenesis through a modification of the gut microbiota brain axis. Our study is the first focused on microbiota analysis in ALS patients. ⋯ Our preliminary results confirm that there is a difference in the microbiota profile in ALS patients.

Randomized Controlled TrialAbdominal Paracentesis Drainage Does Not Increase Infection in Severe Acute Pancreatitis: A Prospective Study.
To demonstrate the relationship between abdominal paracentesis drainage (APD) and infectious complications in moderately severe acute pancreatitis (MSAP) or severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) patients. ⋯ Our results indicate that APD did not increase the infectious complications and infection-related mortality compared with the strategy without APD in patients with MSAP or SAP.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyDouble-blind randomized placebo-controlled clinical trial of omega 3 fatty acids for the treatment of diabetic patients with nonalcoholic steatohepatitis.
Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is common and severe in patients with diabetes mellitus. Although, there are no effective treatments for NASH in diabetic patients, preliminary reports suggest that polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) may be beneficial in these patients. ⋯ PUFA provided no benefit over placebo in NASH patients with diabetes. The effects of PUFA on histology and insulin resistance were inferior to placebo. These data provide no support for PUFA supplements in NASH.
