The aim of this study was to investigate the relationships between protein intake (during the tapering period and the race), marathon performance, body composition, acute race-induced changes, and selected metabolic- and muscle damage-related blood biomarkers in recreational master runners. ⋯ Marathon-induced changes in body composition and metabolic blood indices are highly related to protein intake, either during the tapering period or during the race, with runners experiencing the lowest changes when consuming higher protein intakes.

The aim of this study was to investigate association between consumption of camel milk (CaM) and childhood anemia. ⋯ CaM consumption was associated with lower prevalence of anemia compared with consumption of BM. Promoting use of CaM as complementary food for preschool children in pastoralist areas might be considered an intervention toward reducing anemia.

Postpyloric enteral feeding tubes (PPTs) are often placed endoscopically. This carries cost and capacity implications for hospitals with additional strain on endoscopy units during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. The Kangaroo Feeding Tube with IRIS Technology (IRIS) uses optical visualization to guide bedside placement, obviating the need for endoscopy. We describe a case series of bedside postpyloric enteral feeding tube placement using the IRIS tube. ⋯ To our knowledge, this is the largest single series of bedside postpyloric enteral feeding tube placement using the IRIS tube to date. The success rate and safety profile reported here, together with the potential benefits (reduced feeding delays, costs, and need for endoscopy) suggest that further, large-scale studies are warranted.

Parents' lifestyle and nutrition can program offspring obesity in adulthood. We hypothesized that maternal swimming has beneficial effects on the adversity caused by paternal obesity on offspring. ⋯ Obese fathers produced offspring that were overweight and had altered fasting glycemia and insulin sensitivity, leading to higher liver lipogenesis and inflammation, as well as lower beta-oxidation. The swimming mother mitigated these adverse effects in mice offspring.

The purpose of this study was to observe changes in iron metabolism of rats due to high-intensity exercise during reduced food intake. ⋯ High-intensity exercise under restricted food intake may significantly alter the iron metabolism to maintain blood cell levels due to the strong promotion of metabolic iron utilization in response to dietary iron depletion, increased iron demand, and excretion.
