How well does the Internet answer patients' questions about inflammatory bowel disease?
the Internet is an increasingly important source of health information. ⋯ websites could be strengthened by providing more of the information patients deem to be important, and by more clearly identifying sources of information and the date the information was updated. Most websites would benefit from more attention given to reducing the reading level and improving the organization of material.

The rate of prescribing gastrointestinal prophylaxis with either a proton pump inhibitor or an H2-receptor antagonist in Nova Scotia seniors starting nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug therapy.
Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are widely used agents that can cause serious gastrointestinal (GI) side effects. For patients at increased risk of NSAID-related GI complications, prophylaxis with either a nonselective NSAID plus gastroprotective agent (GPA) or, alternatively, therapy with a cyclooxygenase-2 selective inhibitor with or without a GPA such as a proton pump inhibitor (PPI), is recommended. ⋯ In Nova Scotian seniors using nonselective NSAIDs, the rate of GI prophylaxis was low. Most patients received H2RAs as GPAs despite evidence that they offer insufficient protection.

Factors associated with colonoscopy performed in nonhospital settings.
Colonoscopy is being increasingly performed in facilities outside of hospitals. Regulation of these facilities is variable, and concerns regarding the quality of procedures in nonhospital (NH) settings have been raised. Further study is needed to better understand endoscopic practice in these facilities. ⋯ Rates of NH-based colonoscopy are rising in Ontario. High-volume endoscopists and surgeons are most likely to practice in NH settings. Given its increasing use, further study of the practice and the regulation of NH colonoscopy is warranted.

Ranking in Canadian gastroenterology residency match: what do residents and program directors want?
Matching to a gastroenterology (GI) fellowship position in Canada is increasingly competitive. ⋯ Several factors important for GI applicants and program directors were identified, as well as a few less-important factors. Based on these results, GI training programs can more effectively market their programs to applicants in the future, and residents applying to GI programs can strengthen their applications in the ever competitive match process.
