Oblique approach for ultrasound-guided radial artery catheterization vs transverse and longitudinal approaches, a randomized trial.
To investigate the value of using a new technique for ultrasound-guided radial artery catheterization; oblique approach; vs transverse and longitudinal views are the traditionally used approaches aiming to combine benefits and avoid drawbacks of aforementioned approaches. ⋯ These results support the conclusion that the oblique approach for US-guided radial artery catheterization may replace the 2 classic approaches owing to its superior success rate, higher first attempt success and shorter time consumed for catheterization with more operator satisfaction after the procedure.

The effect of play distraction on anxiety before premedication administration: a randomized trial.
The majority of children scheduled to undergo surgery experience substantial anxiety in the preoperative holding area before induction of anesthesia. Pharmacological interventions aimed at reducing perioperative anxiety are paradoxically a source of stress for children themselves. Midazolam is frequently used as premedication, and the formula of this drug in Turkey is bitter. We aimed to assess the role of distraction in the form of playing with play dough (Play-Doh) on reducing premedication anxiety in children. ⋯ This study showed that distraction in the form of playing with play dough facilitated administration of oral midazolam in young children.

Anesthesia management with ultrasound-guided thoracic paravertebral block for donor nephrectomy: A prospective randomized study.
To determine the efficacy of ultrasound-guided thoracic paravertebral block intraoperatively and 24 hours postoperatively in patients undergoing donor nephrectomy. ⋯ Continuous thoracic paravertebral block provides good intraoperative stability with a low anesthetic requirement and reduces postoperative morphine consumption for up to 24 hours. Ultrasound guided technique enhanced the safety of TPVB and provides analgesia without major complications.

Evaluation of the reliability of preoperative descriptive airway assessment tests in prediction of the Cormack-Lehane score: A prospective randomized clinical study.
In this study we investigated and compared the predictive values of different airway assessments tests including thyromental height measurement test, which has been recently suggested, in difficult laryngoscopy (Cormack and Lehane [C-L] scores 3 and 4). In addition, we compared the effectiveness of methods and C-L scores, by IDS, in terms of predicting difficult intubation. ⋯ The present study demonstrates the practicality of TMH as a digitalized test however the clinical benefits of TMH in daily medical practice are drawn into question. The additional variable of race may have had some bearing on this and further studies, larger in patient sample size, may need to use different methodology concerning age-, sex-, and race-dependent variables in evaluating these tests.

Effective volumes of 1.5% mepivacaine with different sodium concentration for ultrasound guided popliteal block.
To determine if a solution of 1.5% mepivacaine diluted with 5% dextrose, which decreases the sodium concentration by 30%, results in reduced volume requirements for a complete sensory block, in the case of an ultrasound guided popliteal nerve block. ⋯ A dilution of 1.5% mepivacaine with 30% less sodium concentration does not decrease volume requirement for ultrasound guided sciatic nerve block at popliteal level.
