Meta Analysis
Prevalence and risk factors of difficult mask ventilation: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
This meta-analysis aimed at identifying the risk factors for and their strengths in predicting difficult mask ventilation (MV) through a systematic approach. ⋯ Our results demonstrated the strengths of 13 most common risk factors for predicting difficult MV, which may serve as an evidence-based reference for clinicians to incorporate into their daily practice.

To perform a dose-response meta-analysis for the association between postoperative myocardial injury (PMI) in noncardiac surgery and the risk of all-cause mortality or major adverse cardiovascular event (MACE). ⋯ This study shows positive WL or GL and RCS dose-response relationships between PMI and all-cause mortality at short (< 12 mons)- and long-term (≥ 12 mons) follow-up, and MACE at longest follow-up. For mild cTn increase below URL, the risk of mortality also increases even with every increment of 0.25× URL.

The prevention of perioperative hypothermia after anesthesia induction is a critical concern in patients undergoing abdominal surgery. The effectiveness of various warming systems for preventing hypothermia and shivering when applied to specific areas of the body remains undetermined. ⋯ The results of this NMA revealed that forced-air warming with an underbody blanket effectively elevates core body temperatures in 60 and 120 min after induction of anesthesia and prevents shivering in patients recovering from abdominal surgery.

Review Meta Analysis
Incidence of preoperative instrumental activities of daily living (IADL) dependence and adverse outcomes in older surgical patients: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs) are essential to patient function and quality of life after surgery. In older surgical patients, the incidence of preoperative IADL dependence has not been well characterized in the literature. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to determine the pooled incidence of preoperative IADL dependence and the associated adverse outcomes in the older surgical population. ⋯ There is a high incidence of IADL dependence in older surgical patients undergoing non-cardiac and cardiac surgery. Preoperative IADL dependence was associated with a two-fold risk of postoperative delirium. Further work is needed to determine the feasibility of using the IADL scale preoperatively as a predictive tool for postoperative adverse outcomes.

The effectiveness of supplemental oxygen and high-flow nasal cannula therapy in patients with obstructive sleep apnea in different clinical settings: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
To evaluate the effectiveness of supplemental oxygen therapy and high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) therapy in patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in different clinical settings to assess its application to surgical patients in the postoperative setting. ⋯ Oxygen therapy effectively reduces AHI and increases SpO2 in patients with OSA. CPAP is more effective in reducing AHI than oxygen therapy. HFNC therapy is effective in reducing AHI. Although both oxygen therapy and HFNC therapy effectively reduce AHI, more research is needed to draw conclusions on clinical outcomes.
