Multicenter Study
The impact of residency training level on early postoperative desaturation: A retrospective multicenter cohort study.
We studied the primary hypothesis that the training level of anesthesiology residents (first clinical anesthesia year, CA1 vs CA2/3 residents) is associated with early postoperative desaturation (oxygen saturation < 90%). We also analyzed the change in the rate (trajectory) of desaturation during the resident's development from CA1 to CA2/3 resident, and its effects on postoperative respiratory complications. ⋯ Patients treated by CA1 residents have an increased risk of postoperative desaturation. Some residents show an improvement and others a decline in postoperative desaturation rate. Our secondary analysis suggests that there should be more focus on those residents who had a declining performance in postoperative desaturation despite becoming more experienced.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study
Determinants of postoperative complications in high-risk noncardiac surgery patients optimized with hemodynamic treatment strategies: A post-hoc analysis of a randomized multicenter clinical trial.
This post-hoc analysis of a randomized controlled trial was undertaken to establish the determinants of postoperative complications and acute kidney injury in high-risk noncardiac surgery patients supported with hemodynamic treatment strategies. ⋯ Surgical complications, a lower preoperative hemoglobin concentration, age, and vascular surgery were associated with postoperative complications in a high-risk noncardiac surgery population supported with hemodynamic treatment strategies.

Airway nerve blocks for awake tracheal intubation: A meta-analysis of randomized control trials and trial sequential analysis.
This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to assess the superiority of airway nerve blocks versus airway anesthesia without nerve blocks for awake tracheal intubation (ATI). ⋯ Based on current published evidence, airway nerve blocks provide better airway anesthesia quality for ATI with a shorter intubation time, better intubation conditions including higher no reaction to placement of the flexible scope and tracheal tube, lower cough or gag reflex during intubation, higher excellent patient satisfaction, and lower overall complications.

Teleconsultation compared with face-to-face consultation in the context of pre-anesthesia evaluation: TELANESTH, a randomized controlled single-blind non-inferiority study.
During the COVID crisis, pre-anesthesia teleconsultations were widely used leading to savings in time and money. However, the non-inferiority of this system has not yet been evaluated. ⋯ According to our criteria, PATC was not inferior to PAC for preoperative patient evaluation and may be an interesting economical, ecological alternative.

Effects of intraoperative sodium oxybate infusion on post-operative sleep quality in patients undergoing gynecological laparoscopic surgery: A randomized clinical trial.
Post-operative sleep quality is an important factor that influences post-operative recovery. Sodium oxybate has been used to treat sleep disturbances associated with various pathological conditions. However, whether intraoperative intravenous infusion of sodium oxybate improves post-operative sleep quality is unknown. This study aimed to examine the effects of sodium oxybate on the post-operative sleep quality of patients who underwent gynecological laparoscopic surgery. ⋯ Intraoperative sodium oxybate infusion improved post-operative sleep in patients who underwent gynecological laparoscopic surgery.
