Duration of sick leave after shoulder arthroscopy in Germany: analysis of health care data.
The expected duration of incapacity after arthroscopic shoulder surgery is an important factor for therapy planning. The aim of this study was to analyze the duration of sick leave after arthroscopic shoulder surgery in Germany and to identify factors associated with a longer duration of sick leave. We hypothesized that certain patient-related factors may be associated with a longer duration of sick leave. ⋯ The duration of sick leave after arthroscopic shoulder surgery in Germany does not exceed sick leave duration in other countries. More complex procedures, advanced age and sick leave beginning prior to surgery resulted in longer durations of sick leave. Preoperative prognosis of the necessary duration of postoperative sick leave may not always be realistic. An extended period of sick leave can be expected after more complex procedures and in patients older than 50 years of age. Future studies should investigate whether a longer period of physiotherapy may help to shorten the period of postoperative sick leave.

Predictors for satisfaction after anatomic total shoulder arthroplasty for idiopathic glenohumeral osteoarthritis.
The use of total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA) to treat primary glenohumeral osteoarthritis (GHOA) is increasing. Factors influencing patient satisfaction after surgery have not been well documented. The aim of this study was to determine demographic, radiologic, and surgical, factors predictive for satisfaction after TSA for GHOA. ⋯ III, Therapeutic study, Retrospective Cohort Study.

International survey and surgeon's preferences in diagnostic work-up towards treatment of anterior shoulder instability.
Recurrent anterior shoulder instability after surgical treatment can be caused by bony defects. Several diagnostic tools have been designed to measure the extent of these bony lesions. Currently, there is no consensus which measurement tool to use and decide which type of surgery is most appropriate. We therefore performed an evaluation of agreement in surgeons' preference of diagnostic work-up and surgical treatment of anterior shoulder instability. ⋯ Survey, level of evidence IV.

Clinical tests and magnetic resonance imaging have limited diagnostic value for triangular fibrocartilaginous complex lesions.
The diagnostic value of clinical tests and magnetic resonance (MR) imaging for the investigation of triangular fibrocartilaginous complex (TFCC) lesions is not clear due to a lack of clinical data. ⋯ According to this study, clinical tests and MR imaging findings are of very limited diagnostic value for the diagnosis of TFCC lesions.

Concomitant posterior cruciate ligament injuries with direct injury-related patellar fractures.
Posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) injuries and direct injury-related patellar fractures have similar causative factors. However, the mechanisms underlying these injuries differ. We aimed to evaluate the incidence and relationship between PCL injuries and direct injury-related patellar fractures. ⋯ Although a PCL injury requiring surgical intervention was extremely rare, 25 % patients who required surgery for patellar fractures presented with a PCL injury. The incidence of a PCL injury was higher in the lower pole, comminuted, displaced, and compressed patellar fractures.
