This work investigates verbal memory functional MRI (fMRI) versus language fMRI in terms of lateralization, and assesses the validity of performing word recognition during the functional scan. ⋯ Our results support the association between language and verbal memory lateralization, optimally determined by LI quantification, and the introduction of quantitative means for language fMRI interpretation in clinical settings where verbal memory lateralization is imperative.

Pretreatment CT perfusion collateral parameters correlate with penumbra salvage in middle cerebral artery occlusion.
Acute ischemic stroke due to large vessel occlusion (AIS-LVO) is a major cause of functional dependence. Collateral status (CS) is an important determinant of functional outcomes. Pretreatment CT perfusion (CTP) parameters serve as reliable surrogates of CS. Penumbra Salvage Index (PSI) is another parameter predictive of functional outcomes in AIS-LVO. The aim of this study is to assess the relationship of pretreatment CTP parameters with PSI. ⋯ CBV index correlates with PSI, whereas HIR does not. Future studies are needed to expand our understanding of the adjunct role of CBV index with other similar pretreatment CTP-based markers in clinical evaluation and decision-making in patients with MCA occlusion.

To compare the accuracy of subjective Alberta Stroke Program Early CT Score (sASPECTS) evaluation and that of an automated prototype software (aASPECTS) on nonenhanced CT (NECT) in patients with early anterior territory stroke and controls using side-to-side quantification of hypoattenuated brain areas. ⋯ aASPECTS of NECT can outperform sASPECTS for stroke detection.

Very preterm infants (VPIs, <32 weeks gestational age at birth) are prone to long-term neurological deficits. While the effects of birth weight and postnatal growth on VPIs' neurological outcome are well established, the neurobiological mechanism behind these associations remains elusive. In this study, we utilized diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) to characterize how birth weight and postnatal weight gain influence VPIs' white matter (WM) maturation. ⋯ In VPIs, birth weight and post-natal weight gain are associated with markers of brain WM maturation, particularly in the corpus callosum, which can be captured on discharge MRI. These neuroimaging metrics can serve as potential biomarkers for the early effects of nutritional interventions on VPIs' brain development.

Review Meta Analysis
Noncontrast versus perfusion CT to select endovascular therapy in an extended time window: Systematic review/meta-analysis.
The effect of noncontrast CT (NCCT) on the eligibility for endovascular therapy (EVT) in an extended time window remains to be elucidated. We sought to assess the efficacy and safety of NCCT in comparison with CT perfusion (CTP) in selecting patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) for EVT 6-24 hours after onset. ⋯ These findings suggest that NCCT is as effective as CTP in selecting patients for EVT in an extended time window.
