The food intake has great influence on the oral health of adolescents, being relevant to analyze the type of food consumed by adolescents and their relationship with the DMFT index (decayed, missing and filled), the plaque index (PI) and the body mass index (BMI). ⋯ The cariogenic foods are presented as a risk factor for dental caries. The results suggest that it is important to develop up actions for health education.

Sleep patterns and insomnia among portuguese adolescents: a cross-sectional study.
Inadequate sleep patterns and insomnia are frequently linked and represent common sleep disorders among adolescents. The present study provides data on sleep patterns and insomnia among Portuguese adolescents. ⋯ There are high prevalence of inadequate sleep patterns, insufficient sleep and insomnia among Portuguese adolescents. Insufficient sleep is associated with sleep patterns and social and behavioural factors. These results add to our knowledge of adolescent sleep worldwide.

To evaluate the effectiveness of two types of intervention in reducing antibiotic prescribing in respiratory tract infections (RTI). ⋯ Active participation of GPs with the performance of point-of-care tests in the clinic is accompanied by a drastic reduction of antibiotic use in RTIs, primarily in infections considered as mainly viral.

The European Health and Behaviour Survey is a questionaire used to assess a wide range of health-related behaviours, attitudes to health, beliefs concerning the importance of behaviours for health, and health knowledge, using a standardized protocol suitable for translation and administration in different countries of Europe. The objective of this study was to translate and culturally adapt the EHBS-Section B (section used to assess attitudes towards the importance of 25 activities for health) to the Portuguese language and to test its reliability and validity. ⋯ The Portuguese EHBS-Section B exhibited suitable psychometric properties, in terms of internal consistency, reproducibility and construct validity. It can be used in educational and research settings.
