The aim of our study is to analyse mid- to long-term severe adult spinal deformity (ASD) surgery outcomes by comparing three-column osteotomies (3CO) and multiple anterior interbody fusion cages (AC). ⋯ Both PSO and multiple AC are effective in treating ASD. Multiple AC seems more suitable when treating older patients because of a lower intraoperative blood loss, lower rate of major complications and fewer number of revision surgeries.

The association between pain scores and disc height change following discectomy surgery in lumbar disc herniation patients: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
To evaluate the impact of discectomy on disc height (DH) in lumbar disc herniation (LDH) patients following discectomy surgery and address the association of DH change with pain score change. ⋯ Discectomy surgery produces significant and quantifiable reductions in DH and DHI. Additionally, the reduction in DH is responsible for the decrease in back pain scores post discectomy, but further studies will improve understanding and aid preoperative counselling.

Clinical evaluation of lumbar foraminal stenosis typically includes qualitative assessments of perineural epidural fat content around the spinal nerve root and evaluation of nerve root impingement. The present study investigates the use of several morphological MRI-derived metrics as quantitative predictors of foraminal stenosis grade. ⋯ The results of the study have demonstrated that segmented volumes of perineural fat predict the severity of clinically scored foraminal stenosis. This finding motivates further development of automated perineural fat segmentation methods, which could offer a quantitative imaging biometric that yields more reproducible diagnosis, assessment, and tracking of foraminal stenosis.

To analyze the correlation between immediate postoperative coronal imbalance and the matching degree of the correction rates of the main curve and compensatory curves in the surgical treatment of severe adult idiopathic scoliosis. ⋯ Mismatch between the correction rates of the main curve and compensation curves is a critical cause of immediate postoperative CIB. The relatively equal correction of the main curve and compensatory curves is essential for type A patients to achieve postoperative coronal balance, while the correction rate of the main curve should be higher than the compensatory curves in type B patients and vice versa in type C patients. Three formulas for the three different types were developed to provide helpful guidance information for surgical planning.

How helpful is the halo-gravity traction in severe spinal deformity patients?: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
This study sought to evaluate the complications and clinic outcome in radiographic parameters, pulmonary function, and nutritional status of halo-gravity traction (HGT) in treating severe spinal deformity. ⋯ Partial correction can be achieved by preoperative HGT, thereby reducing the difficulty of the operation and the risk of neurologic injury caused by excessive correction. Moreover, preoperative HGT can improve pulmonary function and nutritional status and, thus, increase patients' tolerance to surgery.
