To evaluate changes in the sagittal parameters of the occipito-atlantoaxial complex after three-level anterior cervical decompression and fusion (ACDF) and identify the influential factors by comparing ACDF with a zero-profile anchored spacer (ACDF-Z) versus a cage-plate construct (ACDF-P). ⋯ The Cobb angle decreased and ROM increased significantly as compensatory changes of the atlantooccipital or atlantoaxial joint after both types of ACDF, which may accelerate degeneration. The zero-profile anchored spacer had less impact on the occipito-atlantoaxial complex but was worse at maintaining the alignment restoration, which were contrary to the cage-plate construct. Surgeons should be aware of the impact of multi-level ACDFs on the occipito-atlantoaxial complex.

The prevalence of depression in degenerative spine disease patients: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
To estimate the prevalence of depression in degenerative spine disease (DSD) patients. ⋯ The systematic review indicated increased prevalence of depression in DSD patients. In consideration of the relationship between depression and poor surgical outcome, we should pay more attention to identifying strategies for preventing and treating depression in DSD patients.

To determine predictors for postoperative urinary retention in adolescents undergoing posterior spinal fusion for idiopathic scoliosis. Postoperative urinary retention affects almost every third adolescent after spinal fusion for idiopathic scoliosis. There are limited data regarding the risk factors of postoperative urinary retention in this patient group. ⋯ Higher total opioid consumption, opioid amount on the day of catheter removal, higher weight, and male gender increases the risk of postoperative urinary retention in adolescents with idiopathic scoliosis undergoing posterior spinal fusion.

We investigated whether a high Body Mass Index (BMI) affects the outcomes following Minimally Invasive TLIF (MI-TLIF) for degenerative lumbar pathologies. ⋯ In patients treated by MI-TLIF for degenerative lumbar spine pathology, BMI is not a factor that negatively affects the functional and clinical outcomes.

Multiple solutions for navigation-guided pedicle screw placement are available. However, the efficiency with regard to clinical and resource implications has not yet been analyzed. The present study's aim was to analyze whether an operating room sliding gantry CT (ORCT)-based approach for spinal instrumentation is more efficient than a mobile cone-beam CT (CBCT)-based approach. ⋯ The choice of imaging technology for navigated pedicle screw placement has significant impact on standard spine procedures even in a high-volume spine center with daily routine in such devices. Particularly with regard to the duration of surgeries, the shorter time needed for preparation and de-positioning in the ORCT group made the main difference, while the accuracy was even higher for the ORCT.
