To propose a fully automated deep learning (DL) framework for the vertebral morphometry and Cobb angle measurement from three-dimensional (3D) computed tomography (CT) images of the spine, and validate the proposed framework on an external database. ⋯ The obtained results are within the range of values, obtained by existing DL approaches without external validation. The results therefore confirm the scalability of the proposed DL framework from the perspective of application to external data, and time and computational resource consumption required for framework training.

To determine the midterm outcome of lateral thoracotomy (LT) in skeletally immature patients concerning thoracogenic scoliosis development and lung parenchyma resection (LPR) extent. ⋯ Although post-thoracotomy scoliosis is not associated with significant rotation, the risk of curve progression > 45° is relatively high. Regular follow-up is required as scoliosis may develop several years after LT with or without LPR.

This study explores the biomechanics underlying the sit-to-stand (STS) functional maneuver in chronic LBP patients to understand how different spinal disorders and levels of pain severity relate to unique compensatory biomechanical behaviors. This work stands to further our understanding of the relationship between spinal loading and symptoms in LBP patients. ⋯ Patients with LBP differ in movement biomechanics during an STS transfer as severity of symptoms may relate to different compensatory strategies that affect spinal loading. Further research aims to establish relationships between movement and PROs and to inform targeted rehabilitation approaches.

Spine surgery entails a wide spectrum of complicated pathologies. Over the years, numerous assistive tools have been introduced to the modern neurosurgeon's armamentarium including neuronavigation and visualization technologies. In this review, we aimed to summarize the available data on 3D printing applications in spine surgery as well as an assessment of the future implications of 3D printing. ⋯ Despite promising preliminary results, the applications of 3D printing are so recent that the available data regarding these new technologies in spine surgery remains scarce, especially data related to long-term outcomes.

Prone transpsoas fusion (PTP) is a minimally invasive technique that maximizes the benefit of lateral access interbody surgery and the prone positioning for surgically significant adjacent segment disease. The authors describe the feasibility, reproducibility and radiographic efficacy of PTP when performed for cases of lumbar ASD. ⋯ Single-position prone transpsoas lumbar interbody fusion is a clinically reproducible minimally invasive technique that can effectively treat lumbar adjacent segment disease.
