Unilateral transversus abdominis plane block and port-site infiltration : Comparison of postoperative analgesic efficacy in laparoscopic cholecystectomy.
To compare the analgesic efficacy of unilateral subcostal transversus abdominis plane (TAP) block with local anesthetic infiltration, applied to the port site in patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC). ⋯ Unilateral subcostal TAP block was superior to local anesthetic infiltration at port sites after LC, in terms of low opioid consumption. Unilateral subcostal TAP block is recommended as part of a multimodal analgesic protocol.

Effect of favorite music on postoperative anxiety and pain.
Music is one of the most commonly used non-pharmacological interventions to reduce anxiety. It helps patients overcome emotional and physical alienation, provides comfort and familiarity in an improved environment and offers a pleasant distraction from pain and anxiety. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of listening to preoperative favorite music on postoperative anxiety and pain. ⋯ Listening to patient-preferred favorite music preoperatively reduced anxiety, regulated hemodynamic parameters, and improved postoperative patient satisfaction. Reduced anxiety was not associated with reduced pain.

Analgesic efficacy of erector spinae plane block in percutaneous nephrolithotomy : A randomized controlled trial.
The postoperative pain in percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) is due to dilatation of the renal capsule and the parenchymal tract. The aim of the study was to evaluate the analgesic effect of preoperative single-shot ultrasound(US)-guided erector spinae plane block (ESPB) at theT11 vertebral level in patients undergoing PCNL. ⋯ The use of US-guided ESPB provides a good postoperative analgesia and decreases opioid consumption over 24 h in patients undergoing PCNL.

Comparison of lateral and supine positions for tracheal extubation in children : A randomized clinical trial.
The lateral position is known to be advantageous for maintaining airway patency. This study compared the lateral and supine positions for tracheal extubation in pediatric patients when performing deep extubation. ⋯ In pediatric patients deep extubation in the lateral position improved SpO2 and reduced the incidence of stridor and laryngospasm in the early emergence period when compared to extubation in the supine position.

Efficacy of midazolam addition to local anesthetic in peribulbar block : Randomized controlled trial.
Peribulbar block is considered a safe option for patients undergoing cataract surgery. The limited duration of regional eye blocks was shown to be the main problem. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of adjuvant midazolam (in two concentrations) to lidocaine in the peribulbar block. ⋯ Addition of midazolam to local anesthetic significantly improved the quality of peribulbar block, hastened the onset of sensory anesthesia, lid and globe akinesia and increased the duration of analgesia without notable side effects.
