Randomized Controlled TrialFeasibility of a Randomized Controlled Trial of Self-Administered Acupressure for Symptom Management in Older Adults with Knee Osteoarthritis.
To assess the feasibility of a study to evaluate the efficacy of self-administered acupressure in pain and related symptom management for older people with symptomatic knee osteoarthritis. Feasibility with regard to (1) sample recruitment and retention, (2) treatment fidelity and adherence, and (3) tolerability and adverse events was examined. ⋯ It is feasible to conduct a study of self-administered acupressure for symptom management in community-living older adults with knee osteoarthritis, although sample recruitment may be challenging.

Randomized Controlled TrialPreoperative Oral Administration of Kikyo-To, a Kampo Medicine, Alleviates Postoperative Sore Throat: A Prospective, Double-Blind, Randomized Study.
This study aimed to determine the efficacy of Kikyo-To (KKT), a Kampo medicine, in treating postoperative sore throat and nausea. ⋯ KKT administration before general anesthesia did not alleviate postoperative nausea but effectively decreased the incidence and severity of postoperative sore throat in women undergoing benign surgery.

Randomized Controlled TrialEvaluation of the Effect of Reflexology on Pain Control and Analgesic Consumption After Appendectomy.
Appendicitis is the most common cause of severe abdominal pain in the world, and the associated postsurgical pain, as occurs with other surgical procedures, is one of the most common problems. Today, there is a growing tendency toward nondrug methods and alternative medicine to reduce the adverse effects of drugs. Reflexology involves applying pressure on certain areas of the palms, feet, and ears in order to reduce stress and pain in certain areas of the body. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of reflexology massage on pain relief after appendectomy. ⋯ Reflexology is effective for reducing pain after appendectomy surgery.

Randomized Controlled TrialEffects of Intravenous Patient-Controlled Sufentanil Analgesia and Music Therapy on Pain and Hemodynamics After Surgery for Lung Cancer: A Randomized Parallel Study.
Postoperative pain is caused by surgical injury and trauma; is stressful to patients; and includes a series of physiologic, psychological, and behavioral reactions. Effective postoperative analgesia helps improve postoperative pain, perioperative safety, and hospital discharge rates. This study aimed to observe the influence of postoperative intravenous sufentanil patient-controlled analgesia combined with music therapy versus sufentanil alone on hemodynamics and analgesia in patients with lung cancer. ⋯ Combined music therapy and sufentanil improves intravenous patient-controlled analgesia effects compared with sufentanil alone after lung cancer surgery. Lower doses of sufentanil could be administered to more effectively improve patients' cardiovascular parameters.

Randomized Controlled TrialPreventive Effect of Preoperative Administration of Hange-Shashin-To on Postoperative Sore Throat: A Prospective, Double-Blind, Randomized Trial.
The present study aimed to determine the efficacy of Hange-Shashin-To (HST), a Kampo medicine, in treating postoperative sore throat and nausea. ⋯ HST administration before general anesthesia did not alleviate postoperative nausea, but effectively decreased the incidence and severity of postoperative sore throat in female patients undergoing laparoscopic surgery.
