To identify the difference in presentation, time to treatment, and outcomes between hyperthyroid adults and children referred to surgical evaluation. ⋯ Children with hyperthyroidism were more likely to present with hoarseness and difficulty concentrating than adults. Concentration and communication are critical skills in developing children, and early intervention with definitive therapy may improve such symptoms.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the impact of extended delay to surgery for stage I NSCLC. ⋯ The mortality risk associated with an extended delay to surgery differs across patient subgroups, and difficult decisions to delay care during the COVID-19 pandemic should take substage and histologic subtype into consideration.

We sought to quantify the financial impact of elective surgery cancellations in the US during COVID-19 and simulate hospitals' recovery times from a single period of surgery cessation. ⋯ Strategies to mitigate the predicted revenue loss of $22.3B due to major elective surgery cessation will vary with hospital-specific supply-demand equilibrium. If patient demand is slow to return, hospitals should focus on marketing of services; if hospital capacity is constrained, efficient capacity expansion may be beneficial. Finally, rural and urban nonteaching hospitals may face increased financial risk which may exacerbate care disparities.
