Barcode Medication Administration Technology to Prevent Medication Errors.
Medication errors cause harm to patients at any point along the medication administration process and can be prevented. Barcoding medication administration (BCMA) is effective as a clinical decision support system (CDSS) to avoid errors. ⋯ The objective of this article is to increase awareness regarding BCMA and how it can decrease patient morbidity and mortality, enhance safety, and lower overall hospital-associated costs by preventing medication errors. Key Words: Bar-code medication administration, Medication errors, Adverse drug events, Patient safety.

Review Case ReportsAsynchronous Bilateral Ovarian Torsion: A Case Report and Review of Literature.
Ovarian/adnexal torsion is a rare gynaecological emergency presenting with nonspecific signs and symptoms mimicking other causes of acute abdomen. Asynchronous bilateral ovarian torsion is even rarer but has serious implications as it may potentially lead to castration. ⋯ We report a case of a bilateral asynchronous ovarian torsion in a young female that occurred after an interval of 8 years, which was managed by untwisting the pedicle and preserving the ovary. Key Words: Ovarian torsion, Castration, Bilateral, Gynaecological emergency.

Efficiency of various inflammation-based indices, including neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet/lymphocyte ratio (PLR), lymphocyte/monocyte ratio (LMR), C-reactive protein/lymphocyte ratio (CLR), albumin/globulin ratio (AGR), haemoglobin, albumin, lymphocyte, and platelet (HALP), systemic immune-inflammatory index (SII) and prognostic nutritional index (PNI), was examined in predicting mortality in COVID-19 patients. The study population consisted of 827 COVID-19 patients, including 733 survivors and 94 non-survivors. Compared with the survivor group, the NLR, PLR, CLR, and SII values of the non-survivor group were markedly higher; however, the LMR, PNI, HALP and AGR values were markedly lower. ⋯ PNI had the largest area under the curve to predict mortality, followed by CLR, NLR, and other indexes. This data revealed that PNI, NLR, and CLR are independent factors of mortality in COVID-19 patients among inflammation-based indexes. Key Words: COVID-19 mortality, Prognostic nutritional index, C-reactive protein/lymphocyte ratio, Neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio.

Case ReportsThe Risky Side Effects of Eating Hairs: A Case of Gastric Perforation from Trichobezoar.
Trichobezoar is a rare and potentially dangerous surgical condition in which patients swallow their own hair, often as a result of trichotillomania or trichophagia. This case report focuses on a 12-year female who experienced abdominal pain, anaemia, and gastric perforation due to her mental health conditions. Further examination revealed the presence of hairs, fibers, and bile in her stomach wall - indicative of trichobezoar - which had to be surgically removed. ⋯ The patient in this case was also treated with therapy for underlying mental health issues. With careful diagnosis and treatment plans tailored to each individual's needs, patients suffering from trichobezoar can receive the help they need for successful recovery. Key Words: Bezoars, Gastric rupture, Trichotillomania, Emotional disturbance.
