Diagnostic Accuracy of Serum CA19-9 in Patients with Cholangiocarcinoma: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
BACKGROUND Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) is a relatively rare cancer worldwide; however, its incidence is extremely high in Asia. Numerous studies reported that serum carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA19-9) plays a role in the diagnosis of CCA patients. However, published data are inconclusive. ⋯ The area under SROC curve was 0.8300. The subgroup analyses based on different control type, geographical location, and sample size revealed that the diagnostic accuracy of CA19-9 tends to be same in different control type, but showed low sensitivity in European patients and small size group. CONCLUSIONS Serum CA19-9 is a useful non-invasive biomarker for CCA detection and may become a clinically useful tool to identify high-risk patients.

Niacin is considered to be a powerful drug for the treatment of lipid and lipoprotein abnormalities connected with "residual cardiovascular risk", which persist in high-risk patients even when the target goals of LDL-C are achieved with statin therapy. Recent large randomized clinical studies - AIM-HIGH (Atherothrombosis Intervention in Metabolic Syndrome With Low HDL/High Triglycerides) and HPS2-THRIVE (Heart Protection Study 2-Treatment of HDL to Reduce the Incidence of Vascular Events) - delivered some disappointing results, leading to the conclusion that no further benefit (decreased parameters of cardiovascular risk) is achieved by adding niacin to existing statin therapy in patients with high cardiovascular risk. ⋯ In this paper, we analyze the mechanisms underlying the hypolipidemic and antiatherogenic effects of niacin as well as some limitations of the designs of the AIM HIGH and HP2-THRIVE studies. We also provide the possibilities of rational usage of niacin for specific types of dyslipidemias.

Diagnostic Value of Convex Probe Endobronchial Ultrasound-Guided Transbronchial Needle Aspiration in Mediastinal Tuberculous Lymphadenitis: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
Endobronchial ultrasound-guided transbronchial needle aspiration (EBUS-TBNA) has been widely used in the diagnosis of mediastinal lymphadenopathies. Here, we performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to explore the diagnostic value of EBUS-TBNA in mediastinal tuberculous lymphadenopathy (TBLA). ⋯ EBUS-TBNA appears to be an efficacious and safe procedure and should be used as an initial diagnostic tool for mediastinal TBLA.

The prognostic role of Ki-67/MIB-1 in cervical cancer: a systematic review with meta-analysis.
A significant relationship has been reported in which Ki-67/MIB-1 expression is correlated with survival in cervical cancer patients. However, the prognostic value of Ki-67/MIB-1 in cervical cancer is still not well understood. ⋯ Our meta-analysis concludes that Ki-67/MIB-1 had a prognostic value for OS in cervical cancer patients. To further evaluate the prognostic role of Ki-67/MIB-1 on DFS, studies with larger numbers of patients are needed to validate our findings.
