Delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) is characterized by mechanical hyperalgesia after lengthening contractions (LC). It is relatively common and causes disturbance for many people who require continuous exercise, yet its molecular and peripheral neural mechanisms are poorly understood. ⋯ Here, we show that not only C- but also Aδ-fibre nociceptors in the muscle are involved in mechanical hypersensitivity after lengthening contractions, and that acid-sensing ion channel (ASIC)-3 expressed in the thin-fibre nociceptors is responsible for the mechanical hypersensitivity. ASIC3 might be a novel pharmacological target for pain after exercise.

Review Meta Analysis
A systematic review and meta-analysis of memantine for the prevention or treatment of chronic pain.
N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors are involved in pain signalling and neuroplasticity. Memantine has been shown to have analgesic properties in pre-clinical and small clinical studies. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the efficacy of memantine to prevent or reduce chronic pain. ⋯ Despite a sound rationale, the benefit of using memantine for chronic pain is unclear. Our systematic review and meta-analysis show that memantine may have the potential to decrease pain. However, it can also increase common adverse effects. Considering the small number of studies with potential for bias and inconclusive evidence, there was low to very low certainty. Hence, no clear recommendations can be made about its routine clinical use until larger and more definitive studies are conducted.

Randomized Controlled Trial
Ultrasound-guided adductor canal block after arthroscopic anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction: Effect of adding dexamethasone to bupivacaine, a randomized controlled trial.
Dexamethasone improves the quality and duration of peripheral nerve block when used as an adjuvant to local anaesthetic. We evaluated the effect of adding dexamethasone to bupivacaine on the duration of postoperative analgesia in patients undergoing knee arthroscopy using ultrasound-guided adductor canal block. ⋯ Adding dexamethasone to bupivacaine in adductor canal block significantly increases the duration of sensory block, time to first analgesic requirement and patients' satisfaction score in anterior cruciate ligament arthroscopic surgery.

The link between humour and sense of humour with pain has been a topic of research for decades. The purpose of the present article was to review the different studies that have been conducted to date on the association between humour and sense of humour with pain. ⋯ This review summarizes all main findings regarding humour, sense of humour and pain up until the first half of 2018 and offers a list of aspects to be considered in further studies regarding the link of humour and pain to contribute to a more systematic research.
