Prognostic value of chest radiographs in patients with acute heart failure: the Radiology in Acute Heart Failure (RAD-ICA) study.
To determine whether chest radiographs can contribute to prognosis in patients with acute heart failure (AHF). ⋯ A diagnostic chest radiograph can also contribute to the prediction of adverse events. Pleural effusion is associated with a higher rate of events after discharge, and alveolar edema is associated with higher mortality.

Criterios de ingreso en unidades de críticos del paciente anciano con síndrome coronario agudo desde los servicios de urgencias hospitalarios de España. Estudio de cohorte LONGEVO-SCA.
Information on criteria for admitting elderly patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) to intensive care units (ICUs) is scarce. We aimed to describe factors associated with ICU admission in unselected older patients with ACS in Spain. ⋯ Around a third of elderly patients with non-ST-segment elevation ACS are admitted to an ICU. Admitted patients have a higher risk profile on arrival and a lower prevalence of geriatric syndromes.

To assess the accuracy, safety, and efficiency of ultrasound images obtained by emergency physician to diagnose deep vein thrombosis (DVT). patients with acute heart failure (AHF) attended in a hospital emergency department (ED). ⋯ Ultrasound images taken by emergency physicians to diagnose DVT are accurate and safe and may be efficient. However, routine experience with ultrasound is necessary.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease assessment test: usefulness for monitoring recovery and predicting poor course of disease after exacerbations.
To assess the usefulness of the chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) assessment test (CAT) for evaluating recovery from an acute exacerbation of chronic COPD. To assess whether the CAT score used along with a COPD exacerbation severity scale can better predict risk of a poor course of disease. ⋯ The CAT score may be useful for monitoring recovery from a COPD exacerbation. Combining the CAT score and a COPD severity score may be useful for predicting clinical course after an exacerbation.

Immediate and 30 days mortality in digoxin poisoning cases attended in the Hospital Emergency Services of Catalonia, Spain.
Digoxin poisoning is a frequent reason for seeking emergency care. This study aimed to assess mortality related to digoxin poisoning. ⋯ Immediate mortality is related to a high digoxin concentration in serum, and 30-day mortality to a low Barthel index.
