Randomized Controlled TrialA comparison of different volumes of bupivacaine used in fascia iliaca compartment block introduction.
Fascia iliaca compartment block (FICB) is one of the regional techniques applied for post-operative pain control after femoral and knee surgery. To the best of our knowledge, there are limited reports focusing on local anesthetic (LA) volume. Our aim in this study was to find the most clinically effective volume by comparing three different volumes of LA used frequently in the literature for US-guided infra-inguinal FICB for post-operative pain control in patients undergoing femur and knee surgery. ⋯ Our study showed that ultrasound-guided FIKB is a safe and effective method for post-operative pain relief as a part of multimodal analgesic components, and 0.25% bupivacaine in 0.5 mL/kg volume provides more effective analgesia than the other two groups without any side effects.

Randomized Controlled TrialIs it necessary to use specimen retrieval bag for reducing surgical site infection in laparoscopic appendectomy?A randomized controlled trial.
The aim of the study was to investigate the comparison the effects of the extraction of specimen by using a specimen retrieval bag (SRB) or direct extraction through trochar in terms of surgical site infection (SSI) in patients who underwent laparoscopic appendectomy. ⋯ The results of the present study revealed that the use of SRB does not prevent microbial seeding in patients who underwent laparoscopic appendectomy; therefore, it was concluded that using SRB is not associated with SSI at laparoscopic appendectomy.

Effect of L-carnitine on regeneration in experimental partial hepatectomy model in rats.
In cases of major liver resections or ischemic damage made by the pringle maneuver, agents that increase regeneration or manage ischemic reperfusion injury have become a fascinating topic for researchers. The aim of this study is to see how systemic L-carnitine, an antioxidant with thorough research behind it, affects liver regeneration after major hepatectomy in a rat experimental hepatectomy (two-thirds liver resection) model. ⋯ It is thought that L-carnitine, whose many positive effects have been shown experimentally and clinically, has a positive effect on liver regeneration and immunohistochemical researches is required to elucidate this pathway.

Randomized Controlled TrialA single dose of tranexamic acid infusion is safe and effective to reduce total blood loss during proximal femoral nailing for intertrochanteric fractures: A prospective randomized study.
Tranexamic acid (TXA) has been shown to reduce intraoperative bleeding and the need for post-operative allogenic blood transfusion requirement in surgery. In our randomized controlled study, we aimed to evaluate the effect of pre-operative 15 mg/kg intravenous TXA on total blood loss (TBL), hidden blood loss (HBL), and transfusion requirement in elderly patient group with intertrochanteric femoral fracture (ITFF) and treated with proximal femoral nailing (PFN). ⋯ Single dose of TXA significantly reduces TBL, HBL, and the need for blood transfusions following PFN in elderly patients with ITFFs, while it does not increase the risk of DVT or thromboembolic events.

Randomized Controlled TrialThe use of STOP-BANG questionnaire and other difficult airway determinants in difficult airway prediction and correlation.
The primary objective of this study was to evaluate the use of STOP-BANG questionnaire in prediction of difficult airway. The secondary aim of this study is to evaluate the correlation of the questionnaire and other difficult airway determinant tests in predicting difficult airway. ⋯ In our study, the STOP-BANG questionnaire was found to be important in predicting the difficult airway and this test was found to be usable like other difficult airway parameters.
