Inflammatory pseudotumor simulating a jugular foramen meningioma: case report, technical video and literature review.
Inflammatory pseudotumor (IP) is a nonneoplastic, reactive inflammatory process, of unknown etiology, characterized by a proliferation of connective tissue with an inflammatory infiltrate, most commonly involving the lungs and orbits. Primary intracranial IP is an extremely rare entity often arising from the meningeal structures of the skull base. We reported an extremely rare case of a primary intracranial IP located in the cerebellopontine angle, mimicking a jugular foramen meningioma. ⋯ The patient underwent a 3-month oral corticosteroid therapy showing no signs of recurrence at the radiologic follow-up. Primary intracranial IPs are rare pathologic entities that can mimic extraaxial tumors and should be taken into consideration as a potential differential diagnosis. Complete microsurgical resection in combination with other treatments (steroids therapy, radiotherapy) is the most common treatment of choice and is associated with good outcomes and low rates of recurrence.

This scoping review addresses the challenges of neuroanesthesiologic research: the population, the methods/treatment/exposure, and the outcome/results. These challenges are put into the context of a future research agenda for peri-/intraoperative anesthetic management, neurocritical care, and applied neurosciences. Finally, the opportunities of adaptive trial design in neuroanesthesiologic research are discussed.

Dr. Nathan Rifkinson (1912-2010) was an influential neurosurgeon who dedicated his entire career to the people of Puerto Rico. In 1948, he became the first formally trained neurosurgeon to practice in Puerto Rico. Driven by incredible tenacity and with the help of several other neurosurgery professors, he created a world-class neurosurgery residency training center. ⋯ In Puerto Rico, Dr. Rifkinson discovered a new niche that helped him grow to a unique iconic figure, advising physicians and government leaders on the Island. Together with all the other neurosurgery pillars and their extraordinary dedication, our professors have established an incredible legacy. Without the extreme goodness of our neurosurgery professors, neurosurgery in Puerto Rico would not be what it is now.

De novo bleb formation at the aneurysm neck after coil embolization of unruptured intracranial aneurysms is a rarely observed type of recurrence. The aim of this study was to elucidate the clinical characteristics of recurrent aneurysms in the long-term period. ⋯ De novo bleb formation at the neck of a coiled sac emerges with insidious growth during long-term follow-up. Constant caution should be exercised, even in cases of small- and medium-sized anterior circulation aneurysms. A risk of rupture risk may be anticipated, especially in BA lesions.
