Water as a fast acting wax softening agent before ear syringing.
Dispute exists over the best treatment for softening occlusive earwax. Some require the patient to go away for days before returning for syringing. Some syringe immediately with no preparation. ⋯ Prior installation of water before syringing seems to be an effective and simple method of reducing the number of attempts required to clear the ear of occlusive wax.

Communication across the divide. A trial of structured communication between general practice and emergency departments.
To evaluate the impact of structured form letters for general practitioner to emergency department (ED) communication. ⋯ This study demonstrates that improvements to communication between GPs and EDs are difficult and may require a systemic change within general practice and the hospital. Electronic systems may allow the sort of reciprocal communication required to establish and sustain improvement.

To examine the use and impact of a computer generated, patient held health record (PHR) on information sharing, responsibility sharing and preventive health care. ⋯ The computer generated PHR is an important determinant of patient participation in information and responsibility sharing, health promotion, and disease management. Implementation and evaluation studies are recommended.

Tiger Balm as a treatment of tension headache. A clinical trial in general practice.
To assess the efficacy of a topical medication, Tiger Balm, in the treatment of acute tension headache. ⋯ There was a statistically significant difference (p < 0.05) in headache relief between Tiger Balm and placebo. The difference between Tiger Balm and medication was not significant.
