The Effect of an Abdominal Binder on Postoperative Pain After Laparoscopic Incisional Hernia Repair.
Incisional hernias with apertures measuring less than 7 cm can generally be treated adequately with the laparoscopic intraperitoneal onlay-mesh (IPOM) technique. The wearing of an abdominal binder after surgery is often recommended in order to promote wound healing and prevent recurrent herniation. We carried out a multicenter, randomized pilot trial to evaluate the utility of abdominal binders. ⋯ An abdominal binder may reduce pain after incisional hernia repair with the IPOM technique. The postoperative use of analgesic medication was not measured.

Surgical and Non-Surgical Interventions in Complete Rotator Cuff Tears.
This systematic review compares the efficacy and safety of surgical and non-surgical interventions for full- thickness rotator cuff tears. ⋯ With regard to functional improvement and pain reduction, surgical treatment of full-thickness rotator cuff tears was superior to non-surgical treatment in the short and the long term. Whether the differences between the groups are relevant for individual cases is uncertain, as the measured results were distributed below and above the threshold of clinical relevance. The conclusions may not be applicable to rotator cuff tears over 3 cm in size or to young persons.

Severe Hemorrhage Associated With Oral Anticoagulants.
Few data have been published to date on outcomes after the common clinical experience of severe hemorrhage in orally anticoagulated patients. ⋯ The in-hospital mortality was higher among patients treated with VKA than among patients treated with DOAC, although the difference failed to reach statistical significance.

Peritoneal Flap in Robot-Assisted Radical Prostatectomy.
Lymphocele is the most common complication arising after pelvic lymph node dissection (PLND) in the setting of robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP). The only data available until now on the utility of a peritoneal flap to prevent lymphocele were retrospectively acquired. ⋯ A peritoneal flap after RARP was not found to influence the rate of postoperative lymphocele, whether asymptomatic or requiring treatment.

The Effectiveness of Actively Induced Medical Rehabilitation in Chronic Inflammatory Bowel Disease.
The poor evidence base is a major problem for the German rehabilitation sector. This trial focused on testing the efficacy and benefit of inpatient medical rehabilitation compared to routine care in a single common entity, namely, chronic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). ⋯ Rehabilitation research can be conducted with individually randomized, controlled trials. The findings of this trial indicate the absolute effectiveness of ied rehabilitation for IBD patients, as well as its additional benefit compared to routine care.
