Background: Heavy disease burden of psoriasis has been indicated by previous studies. However, the cost of care and length of stay (LOS) in inpatients with different psoriasis subtypes were rarely addressed. This study aimed to investigate the cost of care and LOS in Chinese patients with different psoriasis types and to clarify the independent factors affecting LOS. ⋯ Conclusions: LOS differed significantly among different psoriasis subtypes while the inpatient burden for a single hospitalization was alike. Infection is an important factor associated with a longer LOS. TNF-alpha inhibitors evidently reduced the total hospital stay period for patients with psoriatic arthritis.

Objective: Investigate the risk factors for recurrence in patients with low-risk endometrial cancer. Method: A retrospective review was performed to identify patients who underwent primary surgical treatment for endometrial cancer from December 2009 to December 2020. Patients who met the following criteria were included in the study: (a) International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics stage IA, (b) endometrioid-type histology, (c) histological grade 1 or 2. ⋯ Recurrence was detected in 9 patients. Histological grade was found to be independent risk factors for recurrence in women with low-risk endometrial cancer (OR 8.255, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.585 - 42.981; p = 0.012). Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that grade 2 disease should be considered a significant prognostic factor for the recurrence of low-risk endometrial cancer.

Gastric cancer is a highly malignant tumor. Gastric cancer stem cells (GCSCs) are the main causes of drug resistance, metastasis, recurrence, and poor prognosis. As a secondary metabolite of lichen, Atranorin has a variety of biological effects, such as antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and wound healing; however, its killing effect on GCSCs has not been reported. ⋯ The results of high performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry and Dot blotting showed that Atranorin@SPION significantly inhibited the mRNA 5‑hydroxymethylcytidine modification of GCSCs. Meanwhile, the results of RNA immunoprecipitation-PCR also indicated that Atranorin@SPIONs significantly reduced the 5-hydroxymethylcytidine modification level of GPX4 and SLC7A11 mRNA 3' untranslated region in GCSCs, resulting in a decrease in their stability, shortening their half-lives and reducing translation activity. Therefore, this study revealed that Atranorin@SPIONs induced ferroptosis of GCSCs by weakening the expression of the Xc-/GPX4 axis and the 5-hydroxymethylcytidine modification of mRNAs in the pathway, thereby achieving their therapeutic effect on gastric cancer.

To elucidate the effect of Schistosoma japonicum peptide (SJMHE1) on pyroptosis in thyroid follicular epithelial cells (TFCs) induced by excessive iodine and the potential mechanism, the effects of SJMHE1 were investigated in NaI-treated Nthy-ori 3-1 cells; and the involvement of the ROS/MAPK/NF-κB signaling pathways in these effects was evaluated by employing CCK-8 assays, flow cytometry, ELISA, and Western blotting experiments. We found that SJMHE1 significantly reduced NLRP3, N-terminus of gasdermin D (GSDMD-N) and cleaved caspase-1 (C-caspase-1) expression, and decreased IL-1β secretion in TFCs. ⋯ Moreover, blocking of the Toll-like receptor 2 significantly impaired SJMHE1-mediated protection from excessive iodine-induced pyroptosis in TFCs. Therefore, our results suggested a protective role of SJMHE1 in excessive iodine-induced pyroptosis in TFCs, which might be attributed to its suppression for ROS/MAPK/NF-κB signaling pathway by binding of SJMHE1 with TLR2.

Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases-3 (TIMP-3) have been revealed to be related to various cancers. To date, no study explores the relationships between TIMP-3 polymorphisms and uterine cervical cancer. The purposes of this research were to investigate the associations among genetic variants of TIMP-3 and development and clinicopathological factors of uterine cervical cancer, and patient 5 years survival in Taiwanese women. ⋯ Moreover, it revealed that cervical cancer patients carrying genotypes CC in rs9619311 exhibited a poorer 5 years survival, as compared to those with TT/TC in Taiwanese women, using univariate analysis. In addition, pelvic lymph node metastasis was determined to independently predict 5 years survival in cervical cancer patients using multivariate analysis. Conclusively, TIMP-3 SNPs polymorphisms rs9619311 are related to cervical patient survival in Taiwanese women.
