Sirolimus is a potent immunosuppressive in renal transplantation. However, its use is limited by some reported side effects. The objective of this study was to determine the side effect profile of sirolimus in renal transplant patients. ⋯ Edema, proteinuria, cytopenia, abnormal level of liver enzymes, and pneumonitis were the most prevalent sirolimus-related side effects in renal transplant patients. Further prospective cohort studies are warranted to detect underlying mechanisms and determinants of these side effects in renal transplant patients treated with sirolimus.

Increasing incidence rates of diabetes related to air pollution have been reported in high-income countries. However, few studies evaluated air pollution effect on plasma glucose indices, in addition to diabetes and prediabetes incidence in developing countries. This study investigated the association between exposure to common air pollutants and the changes plasma glucose indices over time. The incidence of type 2 diabetes (T2D) and prediabetes in future were also examined in association with exposure to air pollution. ⋯ According to our results, exposure to air pollution increases the risk of T2D and prediabetes incidence in our population. The exposure to air pollutants was also associated with increasing trend in FPG, HbA1c, and OGTT levels in both groups of NGT and prediabetic participants.

Our study was conducted to evaluate the effect of BMI, psychiatric disorders, spine diseases, and underlying diseases on persistent and annoying pain after TKA. ⋯ Underlying diseases, psychiatric diseases, and spine disorders did not significantly affect the pain after TKA. Patients with DM and higher BMI experienced more persistent pain after TKA.

The prognosis of and occurrence of complications in patients with different clinical features of cirrhosis differ, and cirrhosis with different etiologies has varying clinical characteristics. The aim of this study was to describe the liver function markers, hepatic complications, and psychological features differentiating patients with hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection-related and alcohol-related cirrhosis. ⋯ Patients with alcohol-related cirrhosis were more likely to develop hyperlipidemia, fatty liver, and psychological symptoms, whereas those with HBV-related cirrhosis had a higher risk of splenomegaly.
