Localized infection of the extraction socket can compromise bone quality and quantity within the socket and bone support for the adjacent dentition. These events can preclude immediate rehabilitative interventions, such as implant placement, and increase the technical sensitivity of guided bone regeneration procedures for successful tissue and bone gain. The use of local scaffolds containing effective antimicrobial agents may suppress local infection and facilitate the regenerative process related to the introduced bone graft particles and barrier collagen membrane. In this case report, pre-medicated collagen sponges containing chlorhexidine and metronidazole were used in conjunction with a bone graft and collagen membrane for guided tissue and bone regeneration, which was followed by delayed implant placement with 2 years of follow-up evaluations.

The leaves of Origanum are widely used in herbal medicine hence of having many beneficial ingredients, one of these important compounds is Carvacrol. The inhibitory effect of Carvacrol was the core of this study by applying different kinds of stimulants to smooth muscles in the wall of thoracic aorta in rats. ⋯ The addition of Carvacrol in the experimental rats showed an increase in the thickness of tunica media as evident by the number of smooth muscle layers and laminae of elastic fibers. It was found that Carvacrol reduced the vascular smooth muscle contractility in the rat thoracic aorta. The mechanism of action is presumed to be achieved through interfering with the mobilization of both intracellular and extracellular Ca2+ through different receptors. Furthermore, it might be suggested that Carvacrol in high doses stimulates smooth muscles in the wall of aorta leading to an increase in the thickness of tunica media layer.

There are concerns about inappropriate use and insufficient knowledge of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) use among medical staff. ⋯ There was not a significant difference regarding knowledge and attitude between the last-year pharmacy students and community pharmacists. The practices of community pharmacists were significantly different from the pharmacy students. It was concluded that certain essential topics regarding PPI use should be emphasized in pharmacy education and during pharmacy practice. Further, it is essentially important for community pharmacists to continue their education through training programs after graduation to enhance their knowledge of PPI use.

Prevalence and trends of adult overweight and obesity in Nigeria - A systematic review and meta-analysis.
The prevalence of obesity and its attendant complications are on the increase globally-sub-Saharan Africa inclusive. Obesity confers an increased risk of coronary artery disease, type 2 diabetes, ischemic stroke, and some cancers. In Nigeria, several individual reports estimate an exponential increase in the prevalence of overweight and obesity. ⋯ The prevalence of obesity and overweight in Nigeria is high with a rising trend over the years. A Nigerian national health survey of non-communicable diseases especially the burden of overweight/obesity is recommended to through more light on the subject. There is need for concerted effort to tame the tide of rising obesity rates in Nigeria.

The effect of spinal anesthesia that is performed in sitting or right lateral position on post-spinal headache and intraocular pressure during elective cesarean section.
Although spinal anesthesia can be applied in different patient positions, the most frequently used positions are sitting and lateral positions. It is known that different patient positions during spinal anesthesia have effects on hemodynamic parameters, postdural puncture headache, and intraocular pressure. ⋯ Spinal anesthesia performed in the sitting position for cesarean section caused a higher postspinal headache than in the right lateral position, but the position did not affect intraocular pressure.
