Following the transplantation of visceral organs, two populations of immunocytes survive which derived from the donor's and the recipient's bone marrow. The rejection process of transplanted organ or graft versus host reaction could result from their mutual stimulation. On the other hand, the immunocytes of the donor and recipient could deny the effects of their MHC antigen disparities directed against each other, to favor the transplant acceptance through the processes of the donor specific tolerance. ⋯ The frequency of chimerism is augmenting more than 1000 times following the combined and simultaneous transplantation of both kidney allograft and donor bone marrow cells. Theoretically, the continuous peroraly giving of high doses of synthetic peptides homologous to immunodominate epitope(s) of the donor MHC molecules could sustain the state of "stable chimerism" with donor immunocytes. This immunosuppressive protocol permits long-term survival of organ (kidney) allograft without diminishing the donor immune system that provokes the present immunosuppressives with non-specific effects.

We present the facts on kind and frequency of disorder of high cortical functions in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. It was considered for a long time that this disease affects selectively motor neurons. The signs of degeneration found in other structures and associated signs of other neurological disorders brought the diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis under suspicion. ⋯ The nosological status of motor neuron disease with dementia is still controversial. There is a possibility of a new clinical entity or a variant of motor neuron disease. Taking into account the fact that pathological changes of motor neurons and the natural history of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis with dementia are not essentially different, as well as the fact that frontal dysfunction is detected in non-demented patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, the authors consider that we are facing a variant of well-known disease of motor neuron.

A large number of studies have shown that beta-blockers are useful in the treatment of angina pectoris. Favorable effects of beta blockers are decreased heart rate, contractility and wall tension, the three main causes of myocardial oxygen consumption. ⋯ Beta-blockers are standard therapy for patients with stable angina pectoris, silent myocardial ischemia and unstable angina pectoris. In the treatment of all these forms of myocardial ischemia beta-blockers could be used in conjuction with nitrates and calcium antagonists.
