Adjunctive use of laser biostimulation with nonsurgical periodontal therapy: a split-mouth, randomized, case-control study in diabetic and nondiabetic periodontitis patients.
Laser biostimulation therapy (LBT) is suggested to have positive effects on periodontal healing. This study evaluated LBT with nonsurgical periodontal therapy (NSPT) in diabetes mellitus (DM) and systemic health (SH) conditions. ⋯ These results revealed the short-term impacts of LBT on periodontal healing, which return to ineffectiveness with repeated irradiation. Therefore, it may be speculated that LBT via the protocol herein may have a short-term antiinflammatory contribution to NSPT, only in impaired healing conditions such as DM.

The effect of wet cupping therapy on the clinical symptoms of adult-onset asthma: a randomized clinical trial.
Asthma is an inflammatory disease of the lungs. Cupping therapy is a traditional method used in Persian medicine for treating various ailments. This study aimed to evaluate the anti-asthmatic effects of wet cupping therapy (WCT) in patients with mild to moderate asthma. ⋯ Wet cupping therapy can be an efficient therapeutic method to ameliorate respiratory complications of asthma patients.

The thyroid gland is one of the major regulator organs of hemostasis in the human body, controlling the functioning of numerous systems. Thyroid hormones exert a modulating effect on the cardiovascular system in particular, ensuring optimal functioning within the normal range. Triiodothyronine (T3), as an active form of thyroid hormone, is mainly responsible for this effect via both genomic and nongenomic mechanisms. ⋯ The pattern of cardiovascular abnormalities in subclinical thyroid disorders appears to parallel that of overt hypothyroidism, suggesting that even mild alterations in thyroid hormone levels may also have effects on the cardiovascular system. The management of subclinical thyroid disease remains controversial. Current evidence suggests that patient age and underlying cardiovascular diseases are major factors in clinical decision-making.

The role of probiotics for preventing dysbiosis in periodontal disease: a randomized controlled trial.
Scaling and root planing remain inadequate in periodontitis treatment caused by dysbiotic microbial dental plaque. The aim of this clinical trial is to evaluate the effects of probiotics and kefir consumption in initial periodontal therapy (IPT) on oral microbiota composition and treatment outcomes in patients with periodontitis. ⋯ Kefir can be administered in addition to IPT, providing results similar to those observed with probiotics.

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a common sleep-related breathing disorder in children. Determination of risk factors for the development of OSA is essential for early diagnosis and treatment of the disease and decreases the risk of negative consequences. This study aimed to investigate the predictive values of Mallampati score, tonsillar size, and BMI z-score in the presence and severity of OSA in children. ⋯ The coexistence of the Mallampati score and BMI z-score significantly increases the presence of OSA in children. Mallampati score, tonsillar size, and BMI z-score are promising parameters for predicting OSA severity.
