The effects of on-pump and off-pump coronary artery bypass surgery on oxidative stress and cerebral oxygenation: a prospective observational study.
In this prospective observational study, our goal was to investigate the relationship between serum levels of oxidative stress (OS) parameters and regional cerebral oxygen saturation (rSO2) in addition to evaluating postoperative clinical outcomes among patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG). ⋯ In our study, we observed elevated OS values and relatively low rSO2 values during on-pump CABG procedures, with rSO2 showing an association with increased OS parameters. Close monitoring of the OS response level and rSO2 during CABG could potentially enhance postoperative clinical outcomes.

Prognostic and diagnostic utility of pancreatic stone protein in pediatric sepsis and mortality.
Early detection and prognosis of sepsis in critically ill children is crucial. The aim of this research was to investigate the prognostic ability of pancreatic stone protein (PSP) in validating sepsis and predicting mortality in a prospective observational study. ⋯ PSP is emerging as a highly sensitive marker for confirming sepsis and predicting mortality in critically ill pediatric patients. Incorporating the PSP biomarker into routine clinical practice could potentially improve the management of pediatric sepsis.

Awake craniotomy (AC) maximizes the resection of lesions in eloquent brain areas while preserving functionality. Tumor delineation with intraoperative use of sodium fluorescein (NaFl) facilitates total resection. When used with AC, it may allow for safe resection without increasing the risk of postoperative neurologic deficits. This study investigated the efficacy and safety of the combined use of NaFl and AC for maximum safe resection in patients with brain metastases. ⋯ Fluorescence-guided resection in AC for metastatic tumors in sensory, motor, and cognitive areas is a feasible, safe, and convenient technique that significantly increases GTR rates and shortens operative time compared to conventional white light surgery without fluorescence guidance. It also does not increase the incidence of postoperative complications. With the combined use of AC and NaFl, ensuring clear and visible tumor margins during surgery and controlling patients' neurological function in real-time are possible.

Difficult mask ventilation and difficult intubation are more common in obese patients. Ultrasound is a reliable and noninvasive method for evaluating the airway. The aim of this study was to investigate the contribution and availability of anterior neck soft tissue (ANS) thickness at different levels, tongue volume (TV), hyomental distance (HMD), the ratio of preepiglottic distance to distance between the epiglottis and the midpoint of vocal cords (PE/E-VC) measured by ultrasonography in predicting difficult airway in morbidly obese patients. ⋯ Ultrasound may be a useful tool for predicting difficult airway and difficult mask ventilation. For this purpose, ANS thickness at different levels, PE/E-VC, and TV values measured by ultrasound can be used.

There are insufficient tools to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of vestibular migraine. Hence, the aim of this study was to perform the Turkish adaptation of the Vestibular Migraine Patient Assessment Tool and Handicap Inventory (VM-PATHI). ⋯ The VM-PATHI is a valid and reliable tool for the subjective evaluation of vestibular migraine in Türkiye.
