EFFECTS OF ENTERAL GLUTAMINE SUPPLEMENTATION ON REDUCTION OF INFECTION IN ADULT PATIENTS WITH SEVERE BURNS.
To determine the effect of enteral glutamine in reducing the incidence of post burn infections in patients with severe burns. ⋯ Enteral glutamine supplementation in severely burnt adult patients reduces blood infection by a factor of three. It also significantly reduces the incidence of burn wound infections.

Supplemental oxygen for caesarean section under spinal anaesthesia.
Routine administration of supplemental oxygen to parturients undergoing Caesarean section under spinal anaesthesia has been criticised in recent times. ⋯ Healthy parturients undergoing Caesarean section under spinal anaesthesia do well without supplemental oxygen; administration of supplemental oxygen from the common gas outlet of anaesthetic machine with the breathing circuit and standard anaesthetic facemask at 4L/min causes relative desaturation.

The efficacy and safety of low dose misoprostol as a ripening agent compared to the widely used balloon catheter in developing countries is undetermined. ⋯ Intravaginal misoprostol in a low dose was compared to intracervical balloon catheter for pre-induction ripening of the cervix.

Evaluation of 25-gauge Quincke and 24-gauge Gertie Marx needles for spinal anaesthesia for caesarean section.
To compare the insertion characteristics and rate of complications between 25-gauge Quincke and 24-gauge Gertie Marx needles. ⋯ The ease of insertion and low incidence of PDPH with the Gertie Marx needle may encourage trainee anaesthetists to use this needle for caesarean section.

To evaluate the analgesic activity of ibuprofen against paracetamol using a simple pain model. ⋯ Sore throat pain provided a sensitive model to assess the analgesic efficacy of class I analgesics and discriminated between the analgesic efficacy of ibuprofen and paracetamol.
