Sarcopenia increases mortality risk in liver transplantation: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Liver transplantation is an efficacious treatment option for those with liver cirrhosis. However, the prognostic role of sarcopenia in these patients is unknown. Given this background, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of the impact of sarcopenia on mortality in patients listed, evaluated and undergoing liver transplantation. ⋯ Sarcopenia was significantly linked with an increased risk of mortality in patients listed, evaluated, and undergoing a liver transplantation, indicating the need of interventional studies in this special population with the main aim to reverse this potential reversible condition and decrease mortality risk.

Sepsis-related mortality is decreasing over time after the introduction of "Surviving Sepsis Campaign" Guidelines in 2004. The last Guidelines version collects 93 recommendations, but several interventions supported by randomized evidence of mortality reduction are not included. ⋯ Several discrepancies exist between the randomized controlled trials with mortality difference in septic patients and the latest Surviving Sepsis Campaign Guidelines. This systematic review can be of help for improving future guidelines and may guide research on specific promising topics.

Prognostic factors of nivolumab in advanced hepatocellular carcinoma: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the sixth most common cancer globally, and a major unresolved medical issue. According to the guideline recommendations of the European Association for the Study of the Liver in 2018 and the American Society for Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Guideline, nivolumab is a reasonable option for appropriate advanced stage HCC. ⋯ Our meta-analysis indicated the potential prognostic factor of nivolumab in advanced hepatocellular carcinoma. However, ongoing clinical and translational research may provide us a better understanding of the prognostic factor and mechanisms.

Iatrogenic coronary artery dissections (ICAD) are rare but potentially devastating complications during coronary angiography and percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI). Intima media complex separation may be produced either by the catheter tip or during PCI. ⋯ A prompt recognition, along with a prompt management (either percutaneous, surgical or even careful watching), are key in preventing catastrophic consequences of ICAD, such as left ventricular dysfunction, cardiogenic shock, periprocedural myocardial infarction (MI) or cardiac death. This review aims to summarize the main updates concerning the pathophysiology, highlight key risk factors and suggest recommendations in management and treatment of ICAD.

Efficacy of statin therapy in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: a systematic review and meta-analysis from 2008-2019.
Statins produce significant hypolipidemic effects and reduce C-reactive protein (CRP) in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It has been reported that statins did not prevent the acute exacerbation of COPD or improve clinical outcomes. Therefore, we analyzed the actual therapeutic effects of statins on COPD therapy during long-term clinical trials. ⋯ Clinical trials conducted over a 10-year period revealed beneficial advantages of statin therapy in COPD patients, permitting increased exercise capacity, FEV1/FVC and HDL. In addition, CRP, IL-6, systolic blood pressure, SGRQ scores and CAT were significantly decreased as well as lipid levels.
