Patients with myofascial trigger points (MTPs) frequently manifest restricted range of motion (ROM) during physical evaluation. Multiple manual therapy interventions have been developed for the treatment of MTPs, but their effect on ROM has not been clarified through a systematic review and meta-analysis. Thus, this systematic review aimed to assess the effect of manual therapy interventions on ROM among individuals with MTPs. ⋯ Manual therapy interventions may be an effective approach for improving ROM among individuals with MTPs.

Although virtual reality is shown to have short-term analgesic effects in acute pain settings, its long-term efficacy in chronic pain conditions has not been established. This scoping review aims to provide a summary of virtual reality approaches explored in chronic primary and secondary pain conditions as defined by the International Association for the Study of Pain. ⋯ Studies show virtual reality to be an effective analgesic intervention for people with chronic pain. Given user satisfaction, a lack of side effects such as cybersickness, and relief of comorbid symptoms, virtual reality has potential as a worthwhile adjunct to chronic pain management programs, thus enabling patients to take control of their symptoms.

Patient-reported opioid analgesic use after discharge from surgical procedures: a systematic review.
This systematic review synthesizes evidence on patient-reported outpatient opioid analgesic use after surgery. ⋯ Self-reported postsurgery outpatient opioid analgesic use varies widely both across procedures and within a given procedure type. Contributors to within-procedure variation included patient characteristics, prior opioid use, intraoperative and perioperative factors, and differences in the timing of opioid use data collection. We provide recommendations to help minimize variation caused by study design factors and maximize interpretability of forthcoming studies for use in clinical guidelines and decision-making.
