Multicenter StudyFactors Leading to Transmission Risk of Acinetobacter baumannii.
To identify patient and healthcare worker factors associated with transmission risk of Acinetobacter baumannii during patient care. ⋯ Healthcare worker hands/gloves are frequently contaminated with A. baumannii after patient care. Patient-level factors were not associated with an increased transmission risk; however, having multidrug-resistant-A. baumannii and specific healthcare worker activities led to an increased contamination risk. Our findings reveal a potential selective advantage possessed by multidrug-resistant-A. baumannii in this environment and suggest possible areas for future research.

Perioperative Low Arterial Oxygenation Is Associated With Increased Stroke Risk in Cardiac Surgery.
Both patient characteristics and intraoperative factors have been associated with a higher risk of stroke after cardiac surgery. We hypothesized that poor systemic oxygenation in the perioperative period is associated with increased risk of stroke following cardiopulmonary bypass. ⋯ Odds of stroke after cardiac surgery are increased in patients with a low minimum PaO2 within 24 hours of surgery. Results should be validated in an independent cohort. Further characterizing the underlying etiology of hypoxic episodes will be important to improve patient outcomes.

ReviewVentilation via the 2.4 mm internal diameter Tritube(®) with cuff - new possibilities in airway management.
A small tube may facilitate tracheal intubation and improve surgical access. We describe our initial experience with the Tritube® that is a novel cuffed endotracheal tube with a 2.4 mm internal diameter. ⋯ The 2.4 mm internal diameter Tritube® seems to facilitate tracheal intubation and to provide unprecedented view of the intubated airway during oral, pharyngeal, laryngeal or tracheal procedures in adults. This technique has the potential to replace temporary tracheostomy, jet-ventilation or extra-corporal membrane oxygenation in selected patients.

To detail the surgical technique and outcomes of dual-graft (DG) adult living donor liver transplantation (ALDLT). ⋯ DG ALDLT enables us to achieve an acceptable survival outcome with 2 suboptimal grafts. However, technical complexity and longer operative time limit is its drawback.
