(1) To identify risk factors for chronic disability in people with acute whiplash associated disorders (WAD). (2) To estimate the impact of the numbers of risk factors present. ⋯ Baseline disability had the strongest association with chronic disability but psychological and behavioural factors were also important. Treatment strategies should reflect this which may require a change to current physiotherapy approaches for acute WAD. The number of risk factors present should be considered when evaluating potential for poor outcome.

Comparison of cervical spine stiffness in individuals with chronic nonspecific neck pain and asymptomatic individuals.
Clinical measurement, cross-sectional. ⋯ These preliminary results suggest that cervical spine stiffness may be greater in the presence of nonspecific neck pain. However, judgments regarding pain intensity and level of disability should not be inferred from examinations of spinal joint stiffness.

Effectiveness of the Godelieve Denys-Struyf (GDS) method in people with low back pain: cluster randomized controlled trial.
The Godelieve Denys-Struyf method (GDS) is a motor learning intervention that may be applied in group or individualized sessions. ⋯ The improvement in disability was slightly higher with group GDS sessions than with the program routinely used in clusters within the SNHS. Adding individualized GDS sessions eliminated this advantage. Further studies should compare the GDS with other types of exercise.

When systemic analgesics or antispasmodics fail to control chronic pain or cause intolerable adverse effects, an intrathecal drug delivery system may be the best bet.
