To evaluate whether a machine learning algorithm (i.e. the "NightSignal" algorithm) can be used for the detection of postoperative complications prior to symptom onset after cardiothoracic surgery. ⋯ Machine learning analysis of biometric data collected from wearable devices has the potential to detect postoperative complications-prior to symptom onset-after cardiothoracic surgery.

Persistent neuropathic pain after brachial plexus avulsion (BPA) is common and generally nonresponsive to medical management. Dorsal root entry zone (DREZ) lesioning is the last resort for pain management in patients with BPA. This study aims to investigate and compare the outcomes and complications of DREZ procedures. ⋯ DREZ lesioning is effective for intractable pain alleviation after BPA. Compared with RF-assisted DREZ lesioning, MDT is associated with better VAS score improvements and a lower rate of postoperative motor weakness.

Retrospective cohort. ⋯ Most patients achieved cost-effectiveness after four years postoperatively, with 56% meeting at five years postoperatively. When revision was avoided, 87% of patients met cumulative cost-effectiveness till life expectancy. Mechanical complications were predictive of failure to achieve cost-effectiveness at 2 Y, while comorbidity burden and medical complications were at 5 Y.

Management of interhemispheric pathologies requires surgical intervention through a restricted anatomical corridor ensconced within critical cerebral structures. The use of retractors to facilitate operative access may cause damage to cerebral tissue. The development of an innovative retraction technique designed to alleviate cerebral damage in such cases is imperative. ⋯ The ideal retraction technique during the interhemispheric approach is still a challenge. Our novel retraction technique may help minimize brain parenchymal damage during surgical resection of interhemispheric lesions.
