Patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) bear a significant burden of pain. We aimed to identify factors that distinguish patients with SLE referred to comprehensive pain clinics and those who are not. Characterizing this patient population will identify unmet needs in SLE management and inform efforts to improve pain care in rheumatology. ⋯ We found notable sociodemographic and clinical differences between these patient populations. Patients presenting with multiple comorbidities might benefit from further pain screening and referral to pain clinics to provide comprehensive care, and earlier referral could mitigate the development and progression of multimorbidities.

Fatigue is prevalent, problematic, and co-occurs in chronic low back pain. When left untreated, fatigue can increase depressive mood, and intensify pain burden and disability in patients with chronic low back pain. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship of fatigue to depressive mood, pain severity, and pain interference in patients with chronic low back pain. ⋯ Assessing the extent of fatigue and depressive mood as part of pain management may benefit patients with chronic low back, thereby reducing symptom burden.

Older adults undergoing total knee arthroplasty may develop chronic pain without effective postoperative pain management. Increasing nurses' knowledge, changing their attitudes, and developing their pain management self-efficacy could improve the effectiveness of pain management. ⋯ An online learning program improves nurses' understanding and ability to manage pain in older adults undergoing total knee arthroplasty. This was therefore an effective learning method.

The development, evaluation and implementation of digital self-management interventions for chronic pain have increased exponentially. While intervention outcomes appear promising to improve well-being and functioning in target populations, it is unclear how the development and evaluation processes were structured and how implementation was planned and executed. The aim of this systematic review is to provide a comprehensive overview of implementation frameworks used to guide and evaluate scientific innovation in chronic pain. ⋯ The use of implementation frameworks to guide and evaluate digital self-management interventions for chronic pain is a recent development in the field. Several promising examples exist and are presented in this review. Currently, the evidence is still limited, and prospective studies need to transparently operationalize, communicate and discuss their efforts. By utilizing an implementation framework, promising interventions can be made available to end-users, closing the research-to-clinical practice gap and increasing access to evidence-based care to people with chronic pain.

The effect of an ultrasound-guided sacral erector spinae plane block on the postoperative pain of lumbar discectomy: a randomized controlled trial.
Pain management is essential after discectomy, the surgical treatment for lumbar disc herniation. This study evaluated the effect of sacral erector spinae plane block (SESPB) versus standard analgesic methods on postoperative analgesia and opioid consumption in lumbar discectomy operations. ⋯ In lumbar discectomy surgery, ultrasound-guided SESPB provided adequate analgesia by reducing opioid consumption and pain scores without complications.
