Case ReportsHepatic sarcoidosis presenting as portal hypertension and liver cirrhosis: case report and review of the literature.
Systemic sarcoidosis is a disease of unknown etiology, with the liver being the third most commonly affected organ. Most cases of hepatic sarcoidosis are not clinically apparent, but a few can progress to liver cirrhosis, portal hypertension and ultimately liver failure. The diagnosis of hepatic sarcoidosis is difficult, considering that no single laboratory test or radiographic finding can definitively diagnose this systemic disease. ⋯ The treatment of hepatic sarcoidosis is challenging, with no large randomized controlled trials done to date. Physicians must be aware of the complications of hepatic sarcoidosis, and must include the same in the differential diagnosis of liver cirrhosis. We present a case of hepatic sarcoidosis complicated by portal hypertension and liver cirrhosis.

[Acute epidural hematoma of posterior fossa: comparative analysis between 20 cases in adults and 10 cases in children].
A comparative study of the clinical features was made among 30 patients, 10 children (less than 14) and 20 adults (older than 15) with traumatic acute epidural hematoma of the posterior fossa (PFEDH). The characteristic findings in both groups were as follows: 1) PFEDH accounted for 15% of 200 epidural hematoma cases. Incidence of PFEDH was 23.3% (10/43) in children and 12.7% (20/157) in adults. ⋯ Thus, intracranial complications associated with PFEDH occurred in a significantly higher number in adults than in children. 5) 20 cases (4 children, 16 adults) of 30 underwent surgery, and 10 cases (6 adults, 4 children) were given conservative treatment. Results (GOS); GR was observed in 22 cases (in all 10 children and in 12 adults), and MD in 8 cases. There were no SD, VS or cases ending in death.

Neutrophil elastase-deficient mice form neutrophil extracellular traps in an experimental model of deep vein thrombosis.
ESSENTIALS: Neutrophil elastase (NE) plays a role in extracellular trap formation (NETosis) triggered by microbes. The contribution of NE was evaluated in mouse NETosis models of sterile inflammation and thrombosis. NE is not required for mouse neutrophil NET production in vitro with non-infectious stimuli. NE deficiency had no significant effect on thrombosis in the inferior vena cava stenosis model. ⋯ Neutrophil elastase is not required for NET formation in mice. NE(-/-) mice, which form pathological venous thrombi containing NETs, do not phenocopy PAD4(-/-) mice in in vitro NETosis assays or experimental venous thrombosis. Our study suggests that NET-targeted therapies need to be highly effective to have an impact on DVT.

[Comparison of the efftec between eccentric fixation and intramedullary fixation for treatment of intertrochanteric fractures].
To compare the efficacy between eccentric fixation and internal fixation for treatment of intertrochanteric fractures of femur,to provide a theoretical basis for the selection of the treatment method of the intertrochanteric fractures of femur. ⋯ Two treatment methods for the treatment of femoral fractures had a good therapeutic effect,but the intramedullary fixation had shorter operative time and less blood loss than the eccentric fixation,it prior to apply to osteoporosis and unstable femoral intertrochanteric fractures.
