Effectiveness of curcuminoids in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials.
To critically appraise and evaluate the evidence for effectiveness of curcuminoids in the treatment of osteoarthritis (OA) in adults. ⋯ Curcuminoids may have some beneficial effects on knee pain and quality of life in patients with knee OA. However, they are less effective at relieving pain compared with ibuprofen. Curcuminoids appear safe on the short-term, and may reduce the need for rescue medication. Published RCTs vary in reporting quality, are characterized by small sample sizes, and have all been conducted in Asia. Further clinical trials are therefore warranted.

Effect of case management on neonatal mortality due to sepsis and pneumonia.
Each year almost one million newborns die from infections, mostly in low-income countries. Timely case management would save many lives but the relative mortality effect of varying strategies is unknown. We have estimated the effect of providing oral, or injectable antibiotics at home or in first-level facilities, and of in-patient hospital care on neonatal mortality from pneumonia and sepsis for use in the Lives Saved Tool (LiST). ⋯ This work was supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation through a grant to the US Fund for UNICEF, and to Saving Newborn Lives Save the Children, through Save the Children US.

Review Meta AnalysisShort-term exposure to air pollution and morbidity of COPD and asthma in East Asian area: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
The association between short-term exposure to air pollution and morbidity of COPD and asthma has been observed in many studies. However, there is a lack of systematic review of the overall risk ratios in East Asian area to provide scientific evidence for health risk assessment. ⋯ Evidence was found that short-term exposure to air pollution was associated with increasing risk of hospital utilization for COPD and asthma in the whole population, the elderly and children, but not in people aged 15-64. Children tended to be more susceptible to the effect of air pollution on asthma morbidity.

Clinical prevalence and outcome impact of pituitary dysfunction after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage: a systematic review with meta-analysis.
Pituitary dysfunction is reported to be a common complication following aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH). The aim of this meta-analysis is to analyze the literature on clinical prevalence, risk factors and outcome impact of pituitary dysfunction after aSAH, and to assess the possible need for pituitary screening in aSAH patients. ⋯ Neuroendocrine dysfunction is common after aSAH, but these abnormalities have not been shown to consistently impact outcome in the data available. There is a need for well-designed prospective studies to more precisely assess the incidence, clinical course, and outcome impact of pituitary dysfunction after aSAH.
