Retrospective review of prospectively collected data. ⋯ For the same magnitude of spinal deformity, increased hip osteoarthritis severity was associated with worse truncal and full body alignment with posterior translation of the pelvis. Patients with severe hip and knee osteoarthritis exhibited decreased hip extension and pelvic tilt but increased knee flexion. This examines sagittal alignment and compensation in ASD patients with hip and knee arthritis and may help delineate whether hip and knee flexion is due to spinal deformity compensation or lower extremity osteoarthritis.

Anatomical study. ⋯ The anatomical features of the medial branch remain similar in each lumbar segment. There are two types of joint branches, including the articular fibers that emanate from the medial branch as it runs along the medial border of the facet joint and the recurrent branch from the medial branch that innervates the upper facet joint. Moreover, an anastomotic branch was found in the medial branches between different segments.

We constructed finite element (FE) models of the cervical spine consisting of C2-C7 and predicted the biomechanical effects of different surgical procedures and instruments on adjacent segments, internal fixation systems, and the overall cervical spine through FE analysis. ⋯ Noncontiguous ACDF with zero-profile can reduce the stress on adjacent intervertebral discs and endplates, resulting in a reduced risk of adjacent segment disease development. However, the high cortical bone stress caused by the Zero-P device may influence the risk of fractures.
