Postoperative analgesic effectiveness of ultrasound-guided transmuscular quadratus lumborum block in congenital hip dislocation surgery : A randomized controlled study.
Congenital hip dysplasia (CHD) defines a spectrum of pathologies in which the acetabulum and proximal femur of babies and children abnormally develop. Open surgery in congenital hip dysplasia leads to severe postoperative pain. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of ultrasound-guided quadratus lumborum block (QLB) in pediatric patients undergoing surgery for congenital hip dysplasia. ⋯ Ultrasound-guided quadratus lumborum block reduces pain scores and analgesic requirements following congenital hip dysplasia surgery.

Erector spinae plane block reduces pain after laparoscopic cholecystectomy.
After laparoscopic cholecystectomy patients have moderate pain in the early postoperative period. According to several studies an erector spinae plane (ESP) block can be a valuable part of multimodal analgesia. Our intention was to evaluate how ESP block influences postoperative pain scores and opioid consumption after laparoscopic cholecystectomy. ⋯ An ESP block can provide superior postoperative analgesia and reduction in opioid requirement after laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

Effects of Apolipoprotein Ε ε4 allele on early postoperative cognitive dysfunction after anesthesia.
Postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) is one of the main causes of morbidity after noncardiac surgery; however, the pathogenic mechanisms of POCD have remained unclear until now. In this study, we performed a pilot study to investigate the association between apolipoprotein E (ApoE) ε4 and POCD in older patients undergoing intravenous anesthesia (IVA) and inhalation anesthesia (IAA). ⋯ The results of the study indicated that the ApoΕ ε4/ε4 genotype was a risk factor for early POCD in older patients undergoing sevoflurane anesthesia.

Combined spinal epidural anesthesia in obese parturients undergoing cesarean surgery : A single-blinded randomized comparison of lateral decubitus and sitting positions.
There is a significant increase in number of obese pregnant women worldwide. Obese parturients undergoing cesarean section have a higher risk for hypotension and require higher doses of vasopressors following spinal anesthesia compared to nonobese parturients. ⋯ Left lateral decubitus and sitting positions during performance of CSEA lead to similar maternal hemodynamic changes in obese pregnant women undergoing cesarean section.

Guided vs. non-guided insertion of Ambu AuraGain™ in edentulous patients.
Supraglottic airway devices perform more poorly and have lower oropharyngeal leak pressure in edentulous patients than in patients with teeth. The Ambu Aura Gain is a newer second generation supraglottic airway device. ⋯ A guided insertion technique does not improve oropharyngeal leak pressure of the Ambu AuraGain™ in edentulous patients. As the only difference is an increase in insertion time this technique is of no benefit for this population.
